Taijutsu (Body Techniques)

Taijutsu techniques are the body and hand to hand skills of the ninja. Taijutsu techniques do not require hand seals. Instead the ninja will train their body in different forms of fighting. A ninja can also use their inherent Bloodline abilities when doing Taijutsu techniques. Clans such as Hyuuga can utilize their ability to see the inner chakra channels of their opponent and then stop the flow, or utilize the Kaiten technique to form a protective barrier by releasing chakra from their body.

Asakujaku - Morning Peacock

Asakujaku is a taijutsu technique used by Maito Gai. Gai first opens the sixth Celestial Gate Keimon, which gives him access to an enormous amount of chakra. Using this tremendous burst of power and speed, he will approach his opponent in a distinctive stance. When near enough, he will kick his opponent and launch them into the air. He will then strike them multiple times, causing the distinctive peacock fan to develop. His opponent will then fall back to the earth, covered in the strike's aura.

Bunshin Kaiten Kakatou Otoshi is a taijutsu technique used by Uzumaki Naruto. Naruto first uses Kage Bunshin to create several clones. These clones and Naruto launch themselves into the air and begin to somersault. They then come spinning down, laying their heels into the target's shoulders and head.

Bunshin Taiatari is a taijutsu technique used by Uzumaki Naruto against Gaara in his mini-Shukaku form. Naruto first used Kage Bunshin to create several clones. These clones launched themselves at Gaara. When Gaara's large sand arm went to grab the clones, another clone then landed on this hand and launched the following real Naruto at Gaara. This fast speed allowed Naruto to get in closer to Gaara. While flying towards Gaara, the Sand ninja used his other arm to grab at Naruto. The real Naruto formed another Bunshin to take the hit, while he maneuvered away into position behind Gaara.

Choudan Bakugeki is a taijutsu technique which utilizes the red Akimichi hyourougan pill. This pill should only be used as a last resort by the ninja. Once ingested, the ninja will immediately burn off all the calories within their body turning it into chakra. For the Akimichi clan and their large girth, it can burn enough calories to give them 100 times their normal strength. When the clan member focuses all their chakra to one hand, it will carry an explosive amount of impact when it connects on their opponent.

Chou Harite is a taijutsu technique which is used in conjunction with the Akimichi clan's Baika no Jutsu. After increasing their body size, the clan member will focus a special chakra to their palms. They will then slam their palms directly into their opponent below, smashing them into the ground.

Douka • Sanseki Sensha is a taijutsu technique utilized by wandering ninja Nagare. In his travels he has picked up many techniques and made them his own. Nagare will first take on the properties of stone by using his Douka no Jutsu technique. This will grant him protection from incoming weapons and strikes. He will then spin and form a rapidly rotating ball of destruction. The rolling tank of destruction will then advance and crush his opponent.

Dynamic Marking is a technique used by the Inuzuka clan. When their canine partners release a stream of urine on their target, the clan member can use their excellent sense of smell to locate their target no matter where they are. The urine itself is more dangerous than normal urine, because of its burning and strong sticky qualities.

This technique is mainly used as a set up for the Soutourou technique. When the clan member and canine familiar are spinning at such high speeds they are unable to see where they are going, but by using their nose they are able to locate their target with little trouble.

Garouga is one of the ultimate Taijutsu techniques of the Inuzuka Clan. The technique is a super-spin and it uses up a massive amount of chakra, rendering the ninja and his dog almost helpless should the technique fail.

The clan member familiar will first mark their target with the Dainamikku Maakingu technique. Then by using Inuzuka Ryuu Chinjuu Konbi Henge, the clan member and his partner will transform into the Soutou Rou, "Two-Headed Wolf." This huge beast has several advantages, the saliva it emits will make it difficult for their opponent to find footing in the surrounding area. The large size of the beast also causes large amounts of penetrating damage when it begins its spin. Unfortunately they spin so fast they are unable to keep track of their vision. So they must entirely rely on their nose and the urine marking. If Garouga connects with the target, the opponent is ripped to pieces. Also even if they do not connect directly, the surrounding shockwaves will slice into the enemy.

Gatsuuga is a supreme Taijutsu technique of the Juujin Bunshin style of combat. After the familiar transforms into a copy of the clan member, both the familiar and ninja will begin a spinning attack. The preferred time to attack is when their opponent is showing an opening. Using this chance the fast rotating of the two attackers will cause a damaging impact on their opponent when they connect with their claws. While using this technique, both attackers are able to rotate and strike from multiple angles.

Gourai Rensa is a taijutsu technique used by Rock Lee. Lee first opens a celestial gate to increase his speed, he then uses his extending chain weapon to wrap up his opponent and launch them into the air. He will then finish them off with a strong strike right into the ground itself.

Hakke Hyakunijuuhachishou is a Taijutsu technique unique to the Hyuuga bloodline. Hakke Hyakunijuuhachishou is a variation of Hakke Rokujuuyonshou, a technique passed down through the main family line. When an opponent is within the clan members divination field of attack, they can quickly begin their assault. The technique allows the clan member to use the Byakugan eye to make nearly double the normal 126 strikes, striking 254 times against their individual foe or opponents. First the clan member will strike 2 times, then 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and finally 128 times.

The technique allows the clan member to use the Byakugan eye to see the inner chakra coils system. Using the Jyuuken style, they can force their chakra through their hands into the tenketsu of the opponent's body through 126 strikes. Hakkeshou Kaiten is a Taijutsu technique unique to the Hyuuga bloodline using the Jyuuken. Kaiten is a special technique passed down through the main family line. Kaiten takes advantage of several of the unique abilities of the Byakugan eye. Byakugan gives the clan member an almost complete 360 degree view of their surroundings. This allows the member to see all angles of attack.

If an attack is near, the clan member will release a large of amount of chakra from their tenketsu. The member then begins to spin like a top, creating a whirling vortex that can nullify almost any attack.

Hien is a Taijutsu technique used by the Leaf ninja Asuma. Feeding his chakra into his knuckle knives, Asuma will extend the length of his blades. Even if they manage to avoid the metal portion of the blade, the chakra portion may cut into them as well.

Karamatsu no Mai is a form of Taijutsu developed by Kimimaro to take advantange of his cursed seal and bloodline ability. It is the third of five dance forms. After activating the level one cursed seal form, Kimimaro will begin to extend multiple bones from his body. Both from his rib cage and his radius and ulna. Because they are hard as steel, these bones can act as a strong defensive mechanism against incoming strikes. Due to this they will also serve as an offensive attack to allow Kimimaro to move with little effort to impale his opponent.

The ninja will first quickly appear below their opponent, then with a switch upper kick they will launch their target into the air. The ninja will then jump into the air to "shadow" the target with the target's back to their chest. Rock Lee uses the Konoha Kage Bayou to place his opponent into a position to do his Omote Renge technique. Uchiha Sasuke would go on to copy this move to set up his opponent for his Shishi Rendan technique.

Nikudan Hari Sensha is a Taijutsu technique used by the Akimichi clan. A modification of the normal Nikudan Sensha, the clan member will use sharp edges to deal greater damage to their target. This has been seen in two ways. One way is to surround their body with a loose chain of kunai or edged weapons. When their body is enlarged, the chain becomes taught which allows them to increasing the rotation speed and destruction when they roll. The other style takes advantage of clan member's long hair. By using their chakra to harden their hair, they become a rotating ball of spikes, which will slice into anyone or anything which gets close.

Nikudan Sensha is a Taijutsu technique used by the Akimichi clan. After using the Baika no Jutsu technique to modify their body into a large sphere shape, the clan member draws their limbs into the main spherical body. Next they launch their body into the air and begin to spin at a high rate of speed. Launching himself at the target, the fast spinning prevents most incoming projectile attacks from landing, instead they bounce off with little effect. Any direct attack the opponent uses with their body would result in the crushing of their attackers bones.

Omote Renge - Front Lotus

Omote Renge is a Taijutsu technique which was forbidden due to the strain it puts on a ninja's body. By opening the first of the Celestial Gates, the Initial Gate, the ninja is able to release the restraints in the brain and push the body farther. In Lee's case, he was able to increase his speed and power. To utilize the Omote Renge, Lee first loosens the bandages around his arm. With a quick dash he is suddenly below his target and a quick upward kick sends his opponent skyward. Lee then jumps into the air to place his chest to the back of his opponent. He then wraps his arms and the bandages around his opponent to prevent escape. As the pair begin their fall back to earth, Lee begins to spin downwards at a high rate of speed, driving his opponent head first into the ground. At the last moment Lee himself releases the bandages and jumps to the clear. Though the technique injures his opponent, it also takes its toll on Lee's body as well.

Rariatto - (Lariat) Lightning Plow Heated Blade

Rariatto is a Taijutsu technique utilized by the Cloud Jinchuuriki Killer Bee. After entering his Eight-Tailed state, Killer Bee will gain a chakra aura which grants him an increase in speed, power and defense. He will straighten his arm and extend two tails forward as "plow blade" horns. Then using his speed he will rush towards his target and ram into their upper chest with his arm, forcing them to the ground. Avoiding the attack is difficult, as only an Uchiha with the Sharingan's predictive abilities and Bee's own brother the Raikage were able to escape it. Should Bee make full contact with his target, they will sustain massive damage to their chest.

Though it is called "Leaf's Ancient Supreme Technique", Sennen Goroshi serves more as an insulting shock technique rather than a skilled Taijutsu technique. The ninja forms their hands into the seal of the tiger, and then jabs their fingers into the nether regions of their target. The result is shocking violation of the targets sanctity and often their launching in the air to stop the awkward feeling.

ShiShi Rendan is a Taijutsu technique developed by Uchiha Sasuke after he used his Sharingan to copy the movements of fellow Leaf ninja Rock Lee. Sasuke first uses the Konoha Kage Buyou to manuever his opponent in a vulnerable aerial position. While shadowing his opponent, Sasuke will attempt to strike them from a vulnerable angle. If he is unable to make a clean strike, he will strike anyway as a feint, to draw his target's attention and defense to one area. He can then strike the undefended area and begin knocking them downwards towards the ground. As the enemy falls back to the earth, Sasuke will deftly rotate his body around to deliver a full force kick to their chest.

Shugo Hakke Rokujuuyonshou is a Taijutsu technique developed by Hyuuga Hinata. During the period after the Chuunin Exam, Hinata pushed herself harder than ever before. During this time she improved her chakra control and developed her own style within the Hyuuga bloodline abilities. She practiced the technique around water to hone it to perfection. Utilizing the Hakke Rokujuuyonshou style, Hinata uses her natural flexibility and her precise chakra control to create an absolute defense.

Hinata will emit chakra from her palms and move her arms in sweeping pattern movements to provide a full 360 degree range of protection for her body. This chakra will be also be able to cut through most any target which dares penetrate the protective sphere. By expelling a more sharper, stronger and more flexible amount of chakra, she can increase it's effectiveness against more massive incoming objects.

Teshi Sendan is a Taijutsu technique utilized by the Sound ninja Kimimaro. Kimimaro will remove his spinal column from his back to create a flexible bone vine. Because the vine is flexible, it can wrap itself around an opponent to rip them to pieces.

Ura Renge is a Taijutsu technique which was forbidden due to the strain it puts on a ninja's body. To complete the technique, Lee had to open the first five of the Celestial Gates. By opening the first of the Celestial Gates, the Initial Gate, the ninja is able to release the restraints in the brain and push the body farther. In Lee's case, he was able to increase his speed and power. By opening the second gate, the Heal Gate, Lee was able to temporarily increase his stamina. With the opening of the Third Gate, the Life Gate, Lee's body turns a shade of red and he is able to perform the Ura Renge. When Lee performed the technique though, he also opened the fourth gate, the Harm Gate, and the fifth gate, the Limit Gate. Opening the gates removes the limiters placed on the body, and by opening these gates Lee was given a great increase in power in speed. The technique was forbidden though because as each subsquent gate is opened, the body faces more and more strain. When Lee opened the fifth gate, his muscles began to snap.

To utilize the Ura Renge, Lee will open the first three Celestial Gates. Then, like Omote Renge, he quickly moves beneath the target and kicks them upwards. While in the air Lee will then pummel his opponent throughout the air with high speed Taijutsu attacks to weaken them. Then at the apex of his attack he will strike his opponent in the chest towards the ground. Lee then moves in close to his opponent and attaches his bandage. Lee will then allow his opponent to get some distance, he then pulls his target back to his body and does a hard downward palm strike to their chest causing them to crash into the ground with massive damage.

The missing-nin Oni brothers from Hidden Mist utilize this form of fighting to assassinate their targets. The brothers wear large metal claws on their hands which have their blades dipped in poison. Gouken Ryuu - Strong Fist Style

To that end he must deal significant damage to his opponent to be able to defeat them. The Gouken form focuses on injuring the body and breaking bones, dealing primary damage to the outer body. Attacks like Konoha Dai Senpuu, Konoha Gouriki Senpuu and Konoha Shoufuu fall into this category.

Juuken Ryuu - Gentle Fist Style

Juuken is fighting style utilized by Hyuuga clan members, it is the strongest style of Konoha. The Byakugan has a penetrating ability to see the tenketsu, the internal chakra coils system 361 pressure points. The clan member can use their fingers or palms to emit chakra to flow into their opponents body's at these precise points. When the hand draws close enough to strke, the clan member can stop or increase their opponents chakra flow. The internal chakra coils which spread throughout the body also wrap around the internal chakra producing organs. So if the internal coils are attacked, it also damages these internal organs. Because a ninja can not train their internal body, such damage can be a critical hit for even a highly skilled ninja.

By being in this drunken state, the user can take more damage without feeling the pain, gain higher agility and provide a natural fluidity to their movements.

Genjutsu

Genjutsu (Illusion Techniques)

Genjutsu techniques are the illusion techniques of a ninja, they normally require hand seals. Genjutsu will use hypnotism to cause hallucinations in others. By causing such illusions they can cause their target mental pain and suffering just as real as physical hurt. Genjutsu is created when a ninja extends their chakra flow through the cerebral nervous system of their opponent to control their minds chakra, thereby affecting their five senses.

To combat the effects of Genjutsu, there are two options. The first option is for the ninja to stop the flow of chakra in their body, and then apply an even stronger power to disrupt the flow of the casters chakra. The second option is to have an outside ninja unaffected by the Genjutsu make body contact, and use their chakra to disrupt the casters flow.

Tsukuyomi, named for the God of the Moon, is a Genjutsu technique which uses the Mangekyou form of the Sharingan eye to generate a powerful illusion. This jutsu is generated by the left Mangekyou eye. This highly advanced technique can not be used extensively because of the toll it places on the user. To utilize the illusion, the clan member will look into the eyes of his opponent and cast a Genjutsu spell on them. The illusion takes place in the mind of the one affected, while under the jutsu the victim is at the total mercy of the user. The user has full control over space and time in the jutsu and can place the one affected through any hell they desire for any length desired. The technique itself only lasts for but a second in reality, but the one affected could have lasted through several days of torture.

It is said only a natural born member of the Uchiha Clan can overcome the illusion. To counter the technique, however, Mangekyou is not required. A highly trained normal Sharingan user can break the illusion, causing the Mangekyou user to experience additional weakness from using it.

Utakata - Ephemeral

This illusion can also be used to play on the fears of the target, causing them to see and hear those who they care about degrade them.

Bijuu (Tailed Beast) Attachment (Chiyo Version - Unnamed)

This unnamed Fuuinjutsu technique attached the Shukaku Ichibi to Gaara's unborn body. Shukaku was attached to two Sand ninja previously by Chiyo, presumably using this same technique. To attach the demon, the technique must bring the two beings into synch, both bijuu and human. As a consequence of the attachment, Gaara's mother Karura lost her life. Akatsuki has termed the attachment of demons to an individual and the resulting loss of life a "Jinchuuriki," literally "the power of human sacrifice." Such a technique will grant the human portions of the demons power. Kazekage hoped this would create an ultimate ninja, who would have near unlimited chakra from the demon. As a result of Shukaku's attachment, the demon protects Gaara with nearby sand.

The seal characters will then retreat to surround the cursed seal in a circular seal. Though the Fuuja Houin can work well against lesser seals, it will not be able to fully stop a cursed seal placed by a powerful, skilled ninja.

Fuukoku Houin is a Fuuinjutsu technique utilized by the Sound Four. This seal is used in conjunction with the Shikokumujin. After the Sound Four seal the individual in the container, they further add this seal as another layer of protection. To create the seal, the Sound member will write the incantation in blood on the sealing paper and then attach it to the container. Finally the Sound member will form the needed hand seal and activate it.

Genryuu Kyuu Fuujin - Complete Nine Mystical Dragon Seal

Genryuu Kyuu Fuujin is a Fuuinjutsu technique utilized by Akatsuki. To further their goals, they seek to capture all the "jinchuuriki," literally "the power of human sacrifice" a.k.a. demon possessors such as Uzumaki Naruto and Gaara. Akatsuki seeks to use the bijuu (tailed demon beasts) for their unique abilites. Once they capture one of the jinchuuriki, they will bring them to a hidden location. All nine members need not be physically present, they can use their astral projection technique to transport a spectral form of themselves into the cave.

The members will first summon the huge "king of hell" statue. This statue has its mouth bound and eyes covered. Once they begin the technique, the mouth binding will fall away and nine spectral dragons will emerge from its mouth to strike the jinchuuriki. This will then begin the extraction process. With the absence of Orochimaru, the process will take three straight day and nights. During this period the members will release the same exact amount of power as that of the bijuu, this synchronization will thus allow its removal. As the extraction continues, the statues eyes will open to reveal the current status of previous jinchuriki captures, with irises appearing in the eyes to apparently represent a capture.

Gofuu Kekkai - Five Seal Barrier

Gofuu Kekkai is a Fuuinjutsu technique utilized by Akatsuki. The five "kin" (prohibition) seals act together to form a barrier to the entrance of their cave. The cave door itself is marked with one tag, and four other tags are located within a few hundred meters of each other. To remove the barrier, all five tags must be removed at the same moment.

Knowing that the barrier has this weakness, Akatsuki added a further protection, in Kyoumen Shuuja no Jutsu. When the four surrounding tags are removed, a doppelganger of the person who removed it will emerge from the ground and battle them. The doppelganger can utilize all the same moves as the original, even bloodline techniques.

Gogyou Fuuin - Five Elements Seal

Gogyou Fuuin is a Fuuinjutsu technique used by the Sannin Orochimaru. Orochimaru forms an elemental seal on each of his fingers, one for each of the following five "elements": water, metal, earth, fire and wood. He used this odd numbered seal to disrupt the affects of the even numbered Shishou Fuuin placed on Naruto's stomach by the Fourth Hokage. This unnamed Kyuubi chakra sealing tag was given to Hatake Kakashi by the Sannin Jiraiya. When Jiraiya and Naruto left to train for two and a half years, Naruto began to further develop his ability to call on the chakra of the Kyuubi. Unfortunately the power of the Kyuubi would become too much, turning Naruto more feral and animalistic than ever before. When Naruto would lose control, the Kyuubi chakra would pour forth, and a tail would appear as the Kyuubi chakra increased. This special tag is placed on Naruto's forehead to stop this process. It will quickly begin to weaken Naruto and cut off the intense power of the Kyuubi.

Sanbou Kyuukai is a Fuuinjutsu technique used by three of puppet master Chiyo's Chikamatsu puppets. The puppets come together to form a pyramid. After forming a hand seal, a great suction will draw in all the surrounding targets to the area between their bodies. Once the sucked in materials reach this area they are broken down into nothingness in the swirling vortex.

Shiki Fuujin - Corpse Spirit Sealing Method

Shiki Fuujin is a Fuuinjutsu technique developed by the Fourth Hokage. A variation of this technique was used to seal the Kyuubi within Naruto. The technique was taught to the Third Hokage who later used it in battle. After calling forth the Shinigami (Death God) with the proper handseals, the user will hand over their soul in exchange for the Death God removing the soul from his target. The ultimate sacrificial jutsu, this technique can be used by a Kage Bunshin, but the Death God will still remove the original caster's soul.

With the jutsu activated, a spectral form of the caster will appear in front of the Death God. The Death God will push his arm through this spectral body, and the arm will extend from the chest of the real caster. This forces the caster to be close or grasping his target. The arm will reach out into the body of the target, and draw their soul from their body. If the Death God is unable to remove the whole soul because of the near death of the caster, it can remove it's knife and merely slice off a portion of the spectral form's soul to consume. This will render the targets corresponding body part dead and useless. The soul portion removed will then be sealed within the chest of the caster. Both the soul of the target and the caster will never pass into the afterlife. They will be condemned to suffer in the Death God's stomach for all eternity, locked in a hated combat, never to escape.

Fuuinjutsu • Shishi Heikou is created by one of the ten Chikamatsu puppets. This seal prevents the one sealed from manipulating chakra. There are two methods for this seal.

In the first, the puppet will expel a hazy orb from its mouth which can be thrown. While flying through the air, the orb will lose it's haze and grow in size to a huge gaping beast-like head. The large teeth can grab ahold of the person it hits and pin them to a wall. Once the it impacts the wall, it will immediately release the seal onto the surface.

In the second form, the main puppet will expel the seal from its mouth onto a surface it is touching.

Shishou Fuuin - Four Image Seal

Shishou Fuuin was a Fuuinjutsu technique used by the Fourth Hokage. The Shishou Fuuin was used in conjunction with the Shiki Fuujin technique to seal the Kyuubi demon within the stomach of Naruto. The Hakke no Fuuin Shiki was used to make the two Shishou Fuuin allow the escape of the Kyuubi's chakra back into Naruto's own chakra. This allows Naruto to draw on the chakra of the Kyuubi and still keep the Kyuubi itself imprisoned. Naruto can access this chakra whenever he experiences heightened emotions or when his own chakra is drained.

Tensha Fuuin • Amaterasu - Transcription Seal • Goddess of the Sun (Heavenly Illumination)

Tensha Fuuin • Amaterasu is a Fuuinjutsu technique utilized by Uchiha Itachi. Seeking to protect his brother from Uchiha Madara, Itachi sealed his Amaterasu within his younger brother's left eye. Upon coming into contact with Madara's Sharingan, Sasuke's eye will begin to bleed and activate a Mangekyou resembling Itachi's. This Mangekyou will then unleash Amaterasu's black flames on Madara.

Byakugan - White Eye (Hyuuga Clan)

Byakugan is the blood inheritance limit of the Hyuuga Clan. The Hyuuga clan was one of the founding noble families of Leaf village. The clan itself is said to be the ancestors of the Uchiha clan who possess the bloodline of the Sharingan eye. When the "Byakugan" is activated, the clan member gains an extra-sensory perception, which gives them penetrating sight and telescopic vision. This allows them to see the tenketsu; the internal chakra coils system 361 pressure points. This vision also grants the member a near 360° view of their surroundings, the higher the skill of the clan member, the further the distance from which they can sense incoming attacks. Unfortunately the vision does have a weakness, a small blind spot that extends outwards from the vertebra of the upper back.

The clan uses this ability in conjunction with their own chakra creating the Juuken (gentle fist) fighting style. The clan member can use their fingers or palms to emit chakra to flow into their opponents body's at the tenketsu points. When the hand draws close enough to strike, the clan member can stop or increase their opponent’s chakra flow. The internal chakra coils which spread throughout the body also wrap around the internal chakra producing organs. So if the internal coils are attacked, it also damages these internal organs. Because a ninja can not train their internal body, such damage can be a critical hit for even a highly skilled ninja. The tenketsu serve as the connectors and exit points for the chakra pathways. So when they are stopped by the Hyuuga clan member, the ninja greatly loses his or her ability to utilize their chakra for jutsu.

This unnamed Ice Style ability is the blood inheritance limit of the Clan Haku hailed from in the Water Country. This unique Ice style is formed through Haku's simultaneous usage of the Water and Wind elemental styles. The citizens of the Water Country blamed the bloodline clans for the constant wars and strife. They turned against the bloodlines and murdered many of them. Clan members fled into hiding and tried to avoid using their bloodline abilities anymore for fear of being killed. Haku's mother fled her clan and married a citizen of the Water Country. When he found out that she had passed on these abilities to her son, he murdered her and came after Haku. Haku was ill-prepared to control his powers, and lashed out to protect himself. His powers took the surrounding water and formed it into an ice spike protective prison. Though his life was spared, his knee jerk response to protect himself killed his father in the process. A homeless Haku was later found by Momochi Zabuza, who saw he could exploit Haku's bloodline abilities for his own nefarious ends.

Haku's powers allow him to take water and freeze it into various forms of ice. Such an ability allows him to turn ice into senbon or into mirrors. Haku can also do many of his jutsu through one-handed seals, something practically unknown and impossible to most ninja. Haku's two primary uses of his ability is Sensatsu Suishou and Makyou Hyoushou.

Sensatsu Suishou is a Ninjutsu technique which uses nearby water to form ice senbon. Haku first kicks water into the air with his foot, and as it rises it freeze to form a "thousand" needles. With the handseal still in place, he can release the needles when needed to have them come raining down on his target.

Makyou Hyoushou is a Ninjutsu technique which uses nearby water to form long flat ice mirrors 360 degrees around the target. Haku himself then places his body inside one of the mirrors. Once inside the mirror, Haku can use the mirror reflections to confuse his target. Utilizing the reflections, Haku can almost instantaneously move from one mirror to the other. Due to the speed, his target will appear to be moving in slow motion. Because of this he can unleash numerous needles into his opponent with little difficulty. Using this technique for long periods of time however, will quickly use up Haku's chakra.

Rinnegan - Transmigration Eye

Rinnegan is the blood inheritance limit of Rikudou Sennin (Six Realms Sage) and his descendants. Rikudou Sennin was viewed as the original shinobi and his Doujutsu was regarded as the most venerable of the three great Doujutsu. As the original shinobi it was said he created modern Ninjutsu. The Rinnegan was regarded as a god of creation when the world was racked with chaos and as a weapon of destruction which could return everything to nothingness. Usage of the Rinnegan was said to give the user mastery over all six forms of chakra nature manipulation.

The true extent of the Rinnegan abilities are currently unknown. Rain orphan Nagato was an inheritor of the Doujutsu, and used it unconsciously when he was angry and afraid. He entered into a berserk state which allowed him to defeat a much stronger foe. It may be this same ability which allowed him to never lose a battle as "Pain," the leader of the Rain Village rebel faction and Akatsuki. Nagato in the guise of "Pain" also has the ability to control six different bodies, each of which acts as a "Realm". Nagato's ability to utilize these bodies probably gives rise to the "Transmigration" name. This is a cycle of reincarnation and rebirth seen in Hinduism and Buddhism. There are six states of rebirth in the cosmology, representing all the good and bad possibilities of life. Each of Rikudou Pain bodies acts as one of these states.

The Realms are former corpses controlled by chakra receiving piercings placed into their bodies. Upon being taken over by Nagato and joining the Pain persona, the corpse will regain "life" and bear the Rinnegan. Each Realm has one area of mastery and utilizes that as their primary jutsu. It is unknown if this is a limitation of their original body, or a side effect of the method of control. It is also unclear if this body ability is unique to the Rinnegan or simply Nagato alone.

Tendou, the Deva Realm is the body Pain uses the most. It once belonged to Nagato's friend Yahiko. This body has the ability to utilize Shinra Tensei, a jutsu capable of gravity manipulation. Nagato is able to donate some of his own life force to utilize a large scale version of this technique, which is capable of causing massive destruction. Chikushoudou, or the Animal Realm, is able to summon creatures and other individuals. After Nagato's original Animal body was killed by Jiraiya, Nagato reanimated a female corpse to become the new Animal Realm. Next is Ningendou, the Human Realm, a body which focuses more on Taijutsu. This Realm can also read the minds and remove the soul of enemies is grips. Jigokudou, the Hell Realm, is capable of utilizing a spectral hell figure capable of judging whether one if telling the truth or not. This figure can also remove the soul of the one it judges. Shuradou, or the Asura Realm, utilizes a ninja who heavily modified his body with technology. Asura is capable of unleashing missiles and laser-like blasts. Finally is Gakidou, the Hungry Ghost Realm, who uses sealing techniques to neutralize most any incoming attack, both natural and elemental.

To use these various Realms, Nagato himself will transmit his chakra from a distance away. From this controller position, he can utilize the sensory information of each body, as each Rinnegan host will share the same vision. Meaning what one Realm views, all his other bodies also view, even if their vision is damaged. By increasing the number of Rinnegan host bodies on the battlefield, Nagato will thus increase the number of viewing angles and eliminate any potential blind spots. The Rinnegan also has the ability to see invisible barriers, allowing Pain to avoid walking into traps or tripping alarms.

Sharingan - Copying Wheel Eye (Uchiha Clan)

Sharingan is the blood inheritance limit of the Uchiha Clan. The Uchiha are said to be descendants of the Hyuuga, with the Byakugan changing into the Sharingan over time. This doujutsu (eye skill) gives one the ability to read Genjutsu, Taijutsu and Ninjutsu and then defeat it. As such, the clan member can view a technique being performed and almost instantly memorize the movements required to be able to complete it, including the needed chakra moldings and seals used. However the clan member cannot copy techniques that are unique to another bloodline and the clan member must have a body capable of meeting the chakra and physical requirements to do the jutsu. This rarely stops the clan member though, as such stressful situations often push their limits farther and allow them to harness their full potential.

The Uchiha clan member is not granted the Sharingan at birth; it is only activated later in life, typically during a time of emotional stress in the heat of battle. The Sharingan itself can be transferred to another non-Uchiha by a medical ninja, such as happened with Leaf ninja Uchiha Obito to his teammate Hatake Kakashi. Because his body was not born to carry the Sharingan, the eye is always activated and it burns Kakashi's chakra when used. To lessen the impact of the Sharingan on Kakashi's body, he normally keeps the eye hidden and out of use. Also of note, is the fact Kakashi, a non-Uchiha, was able to advance the Sharingan from two tomoe to three tomoe after gaining the eye.

The Sharingan itself contains three tomoe (comma). A higher mastery of the Sharingan can be seen in the creation of a new tomoe in the eye, with three tomoe being the typical highest form of the eye. The rare Mangekyou form is a unique evolution of the Sharingan beyond the three tomoe form, please see its entry for more information. An eye possessing two tomoe can allow the Uchiha clan member to track the movement of an opponent and do some minor copying of an opponents attack. For avoiding incoming attacks, the Uchiha's speed and agility will greatly control whether they can move to avoid it. However, three tomoe will greatly help in this area.

Two tomoe will also allow the ninja to pierce Genjutsu and see the surrounding reality for what it really is. It can also allow the member to pierce another’s body and see their chakra. While the eye is not refined enough to see the tenketsu and chakra circulatory system like the Byakugan, it can view the movement and flow of chakra. This can help them tell if a person is trapped in a Genjutsu, or if an attacker is a real threat or merely a bunshin.

An eye containing three tomoe will allow the ninja to see the image of an attacker’s next move from the slightest muscle tension in their body. This prevents wasteful movement and allows the Uchiha clan member to conserve much needed chakra in battle. It allows them to synchronize their movement to strike at an area moments before their opponent is even in that spot, essentially allowing them to strike out and hit their opponent before they're even there.

Three tomoe also grants the Uchiha the ability to do Genjutsu and hypnosis after locking eyes with an enemy. This can be used to cause their opponent to do an attack of the Uchiha's choosing. This hypnosis can also be used as a Genjutsu counter, which is the ability to turn a Genjutsu spell back upon the original caster without the requirement of forming any handseals.

Mangekyou Sharingan - Kaleidoscope Copying Wheel Eye (Uchiha Clan)

Sharingan is the blood inheritance limit of the Uchiha Clan. The Mangekyou Sharingan is a legendary doujutsu ability which has only emerged in a few clan members in its history. There is still mystery surrounding the eye and the Uchiha clan itself. Each user develops their own unique looking Mangekyou. The requirements for gaining the Mangekyou are very controversial in nature. After Uchiha Itachi murdered his best friend Shisui he gained Mangekyou. He told his younger brother Sasuke that to gain the Mangekyou, he too would have to kill his closest friend. Itachi told Sasuke that a scroll in their clan shrine revealed the true original purpose of the clan doujutsu. This scroll and Itachi himself revealed that the former leader of their clan, Uchiha Madara and his younger brother Izuna were the first to obtain Mangekyou. Madara himself did this by killing his friend, it's assumed Izuna also killed a close comrade.

Usage of the Mangekyou techniques drains quite a bit of a user’s chakra, more so than any other normal technique. Also as a result of Mangekyou usage, the bearer will slowly lose their vision. Madara lost his vision before his brother and sought to regain his power. To do so he removed Izuna's eyes and made them his own. With these new eyes, his Mangekyou took on a combined appearance of his original Mangekyou and Izuna's. These "Eternal" Mangekyou eyes returned his vision and gave him unbelievable strength. With this strength it was said Madara used Sharingan's normal ability to supress the Kyuubi and tame it.

Itachi originally told Sasuke that if he gained the Mangekyou, then there would be three people who could handle it. After the time skip in the series, Hatake Kakashi revealed he too had gained Mangekyou Sharingan. Later it was revealed that Uchiha Madara himself was still alive, and was the "third" user in Itachi's statement. What part, if any, that Kakashi and Uchiha Obito's eye plays has yet to be determined.

Itachi's three named Mangekyou techniques are Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi and Susanoo, all mythological deities. Kakashi's Mangekyou technique is named Kamui.

The Amaterasu or Goddess of the Sun technique is generated by the right Mangekyou eye. It is a Ninjutsu technique which uses the Mangekyou form to create a powerful black fire which can burn through most anything. As it has been said that anything within the Mangekyou's vision will burn to ash if consumed by the fire. The fire itself is said to burn for 7 days and 7 nights. The fire is also regarded as the strongest of Mangekyou's physical attacks.

The Tsukuyomi or God of the Moon technique is generated by the left Mangekyou eye. It is a Genjutsu technique which uses the Mangekyou form to initiate a mentally and physically harmful illusion. To utilize the illusion, the clan member will look into the eyes of his opponent and cast a Genjutsu spell on them. The spell takes place in the mind of the one affected, while the jutsu is cast the one it was cast upon is at the total mercy of the Uchiha clan member. The clan member has full control over space and time in the jutsu and can place the one affected through any hell they desire for any length desired. The technique itself only lasts for but a second in reality, but the one affected could have lasted through several days of pain. It is said only a natural born member of the Uchiha Clan can defeat it, this may mean either an Uchiha also holding the Mangekyou or one fully skilled in the three tomoe Sharingan form.

The Susanoo or God of the Sea and Storms technique is generated by both Mangekyou eyes. It is a technique which uses the Mangekyou form to create a sword wielding specter which will surround the user. This specter wields a shield for defense and a blade known as the Totsuka Sword. Anyone or anything cut by the blade will be sealed away into a Genjutsu of blissful oblivion until the end of time.

The Kamui or God's Majesty technique is used by Hatake Kakashi. With this technique, Kakashi forms a handseal to activate the Sharingan in his left eye and change it into his Mangekyou form. Kakashi then focuses on a point on the body of his target. The area around the target will then begin to warp and collapse in on itself, resulting in that area being quickly "sucked" out of existence and transported to another location.

Ranmaru's Unnamed Bloodline

Ranmaru was an orphan growing up in the Water Country. What happened to the rest of his clan is unclear, but because he grew up in the Water Country, it is possible they were killed when the populace turned against the bloodlines. His traits include penetrating vision and a unique chakra particle extension. He had the ability to use his vision abilities to penetrate the walls of his small shack and view the outside world. This ability does not appear to have the range of the Byakugan, but it actually has the ability to counter that Hyuuga trait.

Ranmaru's vision grants him a greater ability to see ones' life force, even beyond the Hyuuga's internal chakra perception. This allowed him to determine that Raiga, who had recently fallen in battle, was still alive. This was something Neji's Byakugan could not sense.

Ranmaru could also extend his chakra out in red dust-like particles to create phantoms and hide his own chakra presence. The phantoms appeared to have functionality only when used in conjunction with Raiga's Kirigakure technique. The spectral images could be granted life-like chakra flows to confuse both normal ninja and Neji's Byakugan.

Satetsu Manipulation (Sandaime Kazekage)

This unnamed Satetsu manipulation ability is the blood inheritance limit of Sandaime Kazekage. This ability came to be known as Suna's deadliest, and granted him the honor of being called the greatest Kazekage. Seeing a previous Shukaku host manipulate sand, Kazekage surmised he could do something similar with tiny pieces of iron. Sandaime could manipulate the fine iron particles due to his ability to change his chakra into magnetic fields. Because iron is a ferromagnetic material, it could move as the magnetic field directed.

Sandaime Kazekage could thus draw the sand together into various shapes and sizes and form weapons whenever he needed. This includes piercing spikes, rain drops and large crushing blocks. When Sandaime was later made into a puppet by Sasori, the puppet master's skills allowed the puppet to retain the ability to use Satetsu.

Shikotsu Myaku - Corpse Bone Pathways (Kaguya Clan)

Shikotsu Myaku is the blood inheritance limit of the Kaguya Clan. The Kaguya clan hailed from the Water Country and they were known for their love of battle. They foolishly decided to challenge their home country and they were all wiped out save for Kimimaro. This clan has the ability to manipulate their bone structure. They can remove their bones at will to create weapons as strong as steel and also use their ability to spurn the creation of new bones. Kaguya Kimimaro would utilize dances which took advantage of this ability. These taijutsu techniques would mix body movement with his ability to extend bones. Kimimaro would also use his Earth Seal to expand these dance forms, granting him the ability to use his bloodline to its ultimate limit.

Souma no Kou is the blood inheritance limit of the brothers Ukon and Sakon. This ability allows the brothers to break down their body at a molecular level and merge with each other. Ukon has advanced this ability with his gaining of a cursed seal. When he enters his cursed seal level two form, he can break down his body at a molecular level and fuse into the body of his victim. This assassination technique is known as Kisei Kikai. This allows him to strategically rip apart the cells of his target from the inside.

While in his level two cursed seal form, he can freely disassemble and reconstruct these cells with his chakra. When done he can use his power to reconstruct himself back to the way it was as he leaves his targets body. Unfortunately because this fusion makes him and the ninja share the same body, he can be damaged by any harm their body takes if it was not done by his careful manipulation. Though not confirmed, it appears Sakon may be able to do this in his level 2 form as well.

The brothers use their ability in their taijutsu fighting style as well, with one brother leaving the main body to attack an unknowing victim from a blindside, or an extra arm sprouting from a spot on the body to get in an undefendable strike.

Jutsu, or skills/techniques, are the mystical arts a ninja will utilize in battle. To perform a jutsu, the ninja will manipulate their chakra and may use some form of hand seal. Some techniques like Taijutsu do not require hand seals, however the ninja may use them to focus their chakra to certain areas of their body. Also some Ninjutsu like Rasengan and various weapon utilizations do not require any hand seal use. By forming hand seals, the ninja is able to mold their chakra and manifest the desired jutsu. Because of the extensive number of hand seals and different combinations, there are thousands of potential jutsu to be discovered and used. The hand seals themselves come from the twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac. The appearance of the seals stem from Hindu and Buddhist iconography, and are called "Mudra" meaning "seal" or "sign" in Sanskrit.These hand gestures helped identify the nature and function of the deity who used them. Over time the positions and traditions changed as they were adopted and moved from country to country. In addition to these hand seals, certain jutsu have their own unique hand and finger positions, such as the gestures used in Kage Bunshin, Shintenshin, etc.. Every ninja in the series save for one has used both hands to form seals. Haku used one-handed seals in his Hyouton bloodline limit techniques. It is unknown if this was a skill unique to the whole of the bloodline or merely Haku himself. Note this is different than the one handed chakra focusing gesture one sees a lot of ninja use.
Ne - Rat
	Ne is the First sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Rat. It is associated with North and the month of November. Note: Rat is used in the Nara clan's shadow manipulation.
Ushi - Ox/Cow
	Ushi is the Second sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Ox. It is associated with North-Northeast and the month of December.
Tora - Tiger
	Tora is the Third sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Tiger. It is associated with East-Northeast and the month of January. Note: Tiger has been associated with Fire Element manipulation.
U - Rabbit/Hare
	U is the Fourth sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Rabbit. It is associated with East and the month of February.
Tatsu - Dragon
	Tatsu is the Fifth sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Dragon. It is associated with East-Southeast and the month of March.
Mi - Snake/Serpent
	Mi is the Sixth sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Snake. It is associated with South-Southeast and the month of April. Note: Snake has been associated with Earth Element manipulation.
Uma - Horse
	Uma is the Seventh sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Horse. It is associated with South and the month of May.
Hitsuji - Ram
	Hitsuji is the Eigth sign of the Chinese zodiac, the Sheep. It is associated with South-Southwest and the month of June. Note: Ram has been officially depicted in the manga as having either the right thumb or index finger extended upwards.

Introduction to Jutsu

Technique Guide
Jutsu, or skills/techniques, are the mystical arts a ninja will utilize in battle. To use a jutsu, the ninja will need to use his chakra. Chakra comes from two places. (1) the body energy inherent in your trillions of cells and (2) the mental & spiritual energy gained from exercise and experience. To perform a jutsu, the ninja will bring out and release these two energies. By forming handseals, the ninja is able manifest the desired jutsu. Because of the extensive number of hand seals and different combinations, there are thousands of potential jutsu to be discovered. Based on which jutsu the ninja uses, the type and amount of chakra will be different as would the elements you would be to employ. The five main elemental styles are also the five names for the Five Great Shinobi Countries: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth and Water. Each ninja has the potential to better utilize one of these styles and potentially more. A special elemental detecting paper is used to determine ones type. The paper comes from trees which are specially grown with chakra. When the ninja imbues the paper with a portion of their chakra, the paper will alter to reveal one's type. The paper will rip in two for Wind, burn for Fire, become wet for Water, fall apart for Earth and crumple for Lightning. For example Kakashi is a predisposed Lightning type, while Sasuke is both Lightning and Fire for the Uchiha clan specialty. The five elements themselves form a cyclical strong and weak relationship against each other. The element of Fire is stronger than Wind, as the usage of Wind merely increases the strength of Fire. So if a Fire jutsu came up against an equal strength Wind jutsu, the Fire jutsu is more likely to win out. Wind in turn is stronger than Lightning. Lightning is stronger than Earth and Earth in stronger than Water. Water finishes the cycle by naturally winning out over Fire.
Ninjutsu - The Five Elements
Katon - Fire
	Katon, or Fire Element, takes the form of fire and flame attacks. These can be fire balls or extended flame throwing. Fire is typically a specialised offensive element.
Fuuton - Wind
	Fuuton, or Wind Element, takes the form of wind based attacks. These can be huge gusts or sustained wind storms. Wind is typically a specialised offensive element, good for close to mid-range attacks.
Raiton - Lightning
	Raiton, or Lightning Element takes the form of electrical and lightning based attacks. When used in conjunction with metal based weapons, the power becomes amplified. Lightning is good for middle to long-range attacks.
Doton - Earth
	Doton, or Earth Element, takes the form of earth and mud based attacks. These can be walls made from mud or the ninja maneuvering himself below ground to attack his opponent from below. Earth can change the hardness composition of objects, making something hard as steel or soft as clay.
Suiton - Water
	Suiton, or Water Element, takes the form of water based attacks. These can be walls of water used as shields or water formed into large striking jets. In this regard, Water is very diverse when it comes to shape modification.
Other Elements
Mokuton - Wood
	Mokuton, or Wood Element, takes the form of wood attacks and defenses. The usage of this elemental style is a hidden technique unique to Shodai Hokage and others who possess his same exact genes. Mokuton is formed through the simultaneous usage of Water and Earth styles.
Hyouton - Ice
	Hyouton, or Ice Element, takes the form of Ice attacks and defenses. The usage of this elemental style has been seen by Haku and ninja from Hidden Snow, however the manga has stated this ability was unique to Haku's bloodline. Hyouton is formed through the simultaneous usage of Water and Wind styles.
Youton - Lava
	Youton, or Lava Element, takes the form of Lava attacks and defenses. The usage of this elemental style has been seen by the Yonbi Jinchuuriki Roushi, who was said to have developed this style by himself. Youton is formed through the simultaneous usage of Earth and Fire styles.
Shouton - Crystal
	Shouton, or Crystal Element, takes the form of Crystal attacks and defenses. The usage of this elemental style has been seen by Guren. It is currently unknown which styles are combined to create Shouton.
Jutsu Rankings
E-Rank
	E-Rank jutsu are the general skills every ninja learns at the Ninja Academy. The students are expected to know these skills before graduating to Genin. Examples: Bunshin no Jutsu, Kawarimi no Jutsu, Henge no Jutsu
D-Rank
	D-Rank jutsu are Genin-level techniques. These skills will make up most of a Genin's arsenal. Examples: Kage Shuriken no Jutsu, Juujin Bunshin, Shunshin no Jutsu, Narakumi no Jutsu
C-Rank
	C-Rank jutsu are Chuunin-level techniques. Some Genin will have one to two skills at this level, serving as their "trump cards" to pass the Chuunin Exams. Examples: Kuchiyose no Jutsu, Nikudan Sensha, Shintenshin no Jutsu, Shishi Rendan
B-Rank
	B-Rank jutsu are Jounin-level techniques. Chuunin and Special Jounin are able to utilize most jutsu at this level. Examples: Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, Omote Renge, Sensatsu Suishou
A-Rank
	A-Rank jutsu are Jounin-level and forbidden techniques. Some Jounin will develop their own unique jutsu from this level to serve as their "trump card" but these are mainly known to Kage-level ninja. Examples: Chidori, Tajuu Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, Juin Jutsu, Gogyou Kaiin
S-Rank

Introduction to Chakra
Please click the Chakra Pathways image to toggle the appearance of the eight inner gates. To perform techniques, ninja need to use their chakra. Chakra comes from two places: (1) the body energy inherent in the trillions of their cells and (2) the mental & spiritual energy gained from exercise and experience. To perform a jutsu, the ninja will bring out and release these two energies. The amount of chakra required for a technique will vary depending upon its size and complexity. Each ninja has the potential to better utilize an elemental Ninjutsu style. For more on elemental chakra and jutsu, click here. For Taijutsu the ninja does not need to necessarily use chakra, as some attacks merely use the stamina required to carry out the attack. For Ninjutsu the ninja's chakra control will determine how much chakra is used on the technique. For ninja with excellent chakra control, they will use the minimum amount with nothing wasted. For ninja with poor chakra control, they will expend more chakra than needed to accomplish their jutsu. Chakra flows through the body's chakra circulatory system. On a more microscopic level is these channels connecting all the vital points on the body. These small channel pathways travel between the cells of the body. They carry the generated chakra and allow the ninja to mold it. If these channels are severed, it is beyond the ability of even skilled medical ninja to repair. On the large scale the chakra circulatory system travels throughout the body and around the internal organs also responsible for creating chakra. This system includes 361 tenketsu, which are tiny pin points through which the chakra flows. The chakra flow can be increased or decreased by manipulating these tenketsu. The chakra circulatory system is only visible through the use of the Byakugan. The Sharingan can see general chakra flow, but not the internal system itself. The Byakugan and the Hyuuga clan's Juuken (Gentle Fist) attack style allows them to eject their chakra from their hands into the tenketsu of their opponents. This pressure will cause the tenketsu to close and block the flow of chakra. With enough tenketsu closed, the ninja's chakra flow will be almost nothing, eliminating their ability to use jutsu. Also because the system travels throughout the body and around the internal organs, pressure done against the tenketsu will also damage nearby organs. Because a ninja can not train and strengthen their internal organs, such attacks can be devastating.
Using Chakra
Focusing an equal and constant amount of chakra to a portion of the ninja's body allows them to attach their body to the touched object. This would allow them to walk up vertical surfaces. By expelling a continuous set amount from their feet in proportion to their body weight, the ninja can walk on water. Ninja can also focus chakra to specific limbs, which will increase the muscles' power and strength. Chakra can also be extended from the body for attack and defense. This can take the form of the chakra strings used to manipulate puppets in Kugutsu no Jutsu. It can also be focused to a fine point for cutting, such as in Kabuto's chakra scalpel. It can also be used to form a defensive barrier in Chakra no Tate. The chakra in the brain and sensory organs are also the primary target of Genjutsu. Genjutsu is created when a ninja extends their chakra flow through the cerebral nervous system of their opponent to control their minds chakra, thereby affecting their five senses. To combat the effects of Genjutsu, there are two options. The first option is for the ninja to stop the flow of chakra in their body, and then apply an even stronger power to disrupt the flow of the casters chakra. The second option is to have an outside ninja unaffected by the Genjutsu make body contact, and use their chakra to disrupt the casters flow.
The Eight Gates
In addition to the tenketsu, the chakra circulatory system houses eight valves responsible for regulating the flow of chakra. The Hachimon or eight gates are located along the spine, the heart and in the ninja's head. It is possible to force the body to open these gates, which allows the ninja to release ten times the usual amount of power. Unfortunately such power comes at a price, as each subsequent gate is opened, the ninja increases the damage to their body and comes closer to death. For this reason gate opening has been deemed Kinjutsu. If all eight gates are opened, the ninja gains power that surpasses the Hokage at the cost of their own life. Also even if the ninja opens fewer gates, if they do not strike a finishing blow against their opponent, they will be severely weakened and very defenseless to a counter attack. It is also unclear whether the ninja has to open all the gates in order, of if they can open a later gate and bypass the previous ones.
	[1] Kaimon (Opening Gate) Releases the brains restraints allowing full power usage of the body's muscles. This is opened to prepare the body to use Omote Renge. This gate is located in the head.
	[2] Kyuumon (Rest Gate) Raises stamina and assists in recovery after being weakened. This gate is located in the head.
	[3] Seimon (Life Gate) Body enters Ura Renge phase, turning their body a shade of red. This gate is located along the spine.
	[4] Shoumon (Wound Gate) Further increases speed and power, usage will begin to tear the body's muscles. This gate is located along the spine.
	[5] Tomon (Limit Gate) Further increases speed and power. This gate is located along the spine.
	[6] Keimon (View Gate) Further increases speed and power, body becomes able to use Asakujaku technique. This gate is located along the spine.
	[7] Kyoumon (Wonder Gate) Further increases speed and power. This gate is located along the spine.
	[8] Shimon (Death Gate) Further increases speed and power, body attains Hokage-level power at the cost of their own life. This gate is located at the heart.
Chakra Types
	Yellow/Blue Normal Chakra: The normal chakra in a ninja's body has been shown two ways. In the manga the normal chakra has been referred to as a yellow color, while in the anime it's always displayed as a light blue.
	Red-Orange Kyuubi Jinchuuriki Chakra: Naruto had the Nine Tailed Demon Bijuu placed inside his body. When the Kyuubi chakra begins to emerge from Naruto, it takes on a red-orange color.
	Green Shousen Chakra: Shousen no Jutsu allows medical ninja to heal wounds by creating a healing chakra in their hands. If the ninja is highly skilled, they are able to heal more critical injuries. In the anime, when the chakra is used it takes on a green color.
	Pink-Purple Kujaku Myouhou Modified Chakra: Meditating around the Hidden Star meteor granted its ninja a special purple chakra. This chakra is reportedly the users own chakra which has been pulled out through training with the meteor.
	Purple Orochimaru and Cursed Seal Chakra: In the anime, Orochimaru's chakra and the chakra pulled out by his curse seals take on a purple color.
	White Hatake Chakra: Using the Hatake family tanto, white chakra would pour forth from both Kakashi and his father Sakumo.
Chakra Modifiers
	Hyourougan (Soldier Provision Pill): The soldier pill is a special medicine full of proteins and stimulants which allow a ninja to fight straight for three days and nights. The pill will temporarily increase their chakra reserves.
	Akimichi Hyourougan Pills: The Akimichi clan developed three pills to increase their chakra in battle. Ingesting each pill grants the clan member more chakra. By ingesting the third and final pill, the clan member will immediately burn off all the calories within their body turning it into chakra, granting them 100 times their normal strength.
	Chakra leechers/consumers: Various techniques and creatures feast on the chakra found in the body. The Aburame clan's Kikaichuu reside in their host’s body in exchange for their chakra. These bugs will also feast on the chakra of the ninja the clan members fight, reducing their effectiveness. Tayuya's Doki also consume the chakra of their targets. Techniques have also been developed to suck out chakra, such as those used by Akadou Yoroi and Jiroubou. Akatsuki member Hoshigaki Kisame wields Samehada, a sword which also pulls out and consumes chakra.
	Jinchuuriki Creation: "Jinchuuriki" meaning the "power of human sacrifice", are those individuals possessing tailed demons within their bodies. The bijuu are creatures of great power and destruction, and all the ninja nations coveted that power and sought to make it their own as weapons. The hope of Jinchuuriki creation is for the human and the tailed beast to resonate together, thereby granting the human some measure of their immense power and chakra. Each beast appears to interact with their host in unique ways, and grant their host power in different amounts.
	Orochimaru's Cursed Seals: As a form of control, the Sound ninja Orochimaru will place cursed seals on those he wishes to grant more power. The chance of surviving the placing of the cursed seal is one in ten. Once placed the seal will grant the wearer the ability to access their real power. By releasing chakra, the seal becomes active and begins to forcibly pull out more chakra. When the wearer releases the cursed seal to activate the extra chakra, they will lose all their free will permanently over time, transforming the user into Orochimaru's slave.
	Hidden Waterfall Hero Water: This special water from Hidden Waterfall allows a ninja to have a ten-fold increase in chakra for a short period of time. By drinking drops of the water, the ninja of the village could increase their fighting ability to compensate for their villages lack of a strong Kage leader. Unfortunately in exchange for the power, the water also eats away at your life.
	Hidden Snow Chakra Control Device: Hidden Snow developed devices to let them increase and regulate the usage of chakra. This device can suck out the chakra of a captured enemy combatant, eliminating their ability to use jutsu. Elite Snow ninja and Snow leader Dotou also wore armor which enhanced their normal chakra reserves.
	Hidden Star Village Meteor: Approximately 200 years ago, the chakra enhancing meteor struck the Bear Country. Meditating around a meteor grants the ninja a special purple chakra. This chakra is reportedly the users own chakra which has been pulled out through training with the meteor. This chakra will first take the form of feathers which extend from the back of the ninja. These "feathers" resemble that of a peacock. The feathers in turn can be shaped and moved to the ninja's will based upon their seal usage. Because the chakra proves hazardous to the health, few ninja have mastered these techniques, and those that do soon die. The training itself has gone through periods where it was practiced and then forbidden. With the stars eventual destruction, the training and usage of the technique will probably cease.

Seals Guide
	The seal has several uses in the world of Naruto. It can serve to imprison demons or grant a wearer more power. To see the power of the Cursed Seals, check theCursed Seals level guide.
Seals
ANBU Root Seal
	Wearer: ANBU Root Danzou, the leader of ANBU Root, places these hexagram seals on the tongues of his ninja. The seal prevents ANBU Root members from divulging information about Danzou. If they reveal top secret information about him, the seal will activate and paralyze their body, ending their ability to communicate. The seal resembles the I-Ching hexagram for "retreat" or "yielding".
Shiki Fuujin (Naruto)
	Wearer: Uzumaki Naruto This seal was attached to Naruto shortly after birth by the Fourth Hokage. When the Kyuubi demon fox attacked Leaf Village, the Fourth Hokage sacrificed his life to capture and imprison the Kyuubi into the body of baby Naruto. This eight trigram style seal allows the chakra of the Kyuubi to bleed through the upper and lower Four Symbol seals into Naruto, while still keeping the Kyuubi imprisoned.
Shiki Fuujin (Third Hokage)
	Wearer: Third Hokage This seal was formed on the Third Hokage when he removed the souls of the First and Second Hokage from their sacrificial host body. It also was formed on his stomach when he removed a portion of Orochimaru's soul. The Shiki Fuujin "Demonic Soul Seal" was developed by the Fourth Hokage. This technique involves calling forth the Shinigami (Death God). The Shinigami will remove the soul of the target, unfortunately the jutsu caster will also have their soul ingested by the Death God.
Cursed Seals
Heaven Seal
	Wearer: Uchiha Sasuke, Mitarashi Anko This seal was attached to both Leaf ninja by Orochimaru.
Earth Seal
	Wearer: Kimimaro This seal was attached to the Sound ninja Kimimaro by Orochimaru. It is said to be equal in power as the Heaven Seal.
Kidoumaru's Unnamed Seal
	Wearer: Kidoumaru This seal was attached to the body of Sound ninja Kidoumaru by Orochimaru. Note this was only briefly seen in the anime, it has yet to be officially confirmed anywhere else.
Sakon's Unnamed Seal
	Wearer: Sakon and Possibly Ukon This three dot seal was attached to Sakon's forehead by Orochimaru. Ukon's infection spread resembles that of his brother, however we have not seen his seal directly.
Tayuya's Unnamed Seal
	Wearer: Tayuya This seal was attached to the back of Sound ninja Tayuya's neck by Orochimaru.
Juin Jutsu - Hyuuga Branch Family Seal (Manga)
	Wearer: Hyuuga Branch Family This seal is attached to the members of the Hyuuga Branch Family. Is is placed on the family member at birth to ensure the secrets of the Byakugan do not fall into enemy hands. It also ensures the Branch member follows the orders of the Main House. When the seal is placed on the Branch members forehead, their mind can be destroyed by a hand seal known only by the Main family. Please note: This is a variation on what is commonly known as a manji, which had its origins several thousand years before the Nazi came to power and used the swastika. It was usually known as a symbol of good luck and protection. This variation is probably meant to be the Buddhist symbol for Buddha's heart and mind.
Juin Jutsu - Hyuuga Branch Family Seal (Anime and English Manga)
	Wearer: Hyuuga Branch Family This seal is attached to the members of the Hyuuga Branch Family. Is is placed on the family member at birth to ensure the secrets of the Byakugan do not fall into enemy hands. It also ensures the Branch member follows the orders of the Main House. When the seal is placed on the Branch members forehead, their mind can be destroyed by a hand seal known only by the Main family. Please note: This version is found in the anime. The animators tried to get around the Nazi swastika connotation by altering the inner portion of the symbol.
Sealed Seals
Kakashi's Fuuja Houin
	Wearer: Uchiha Sasuke Hatake Kakashi attempted to seal the Heaven Seal placed on Sasuke by Orochimaru. It was hoped the seal would help prevent the cursed seal from activating on Sasuke's neck.
Gogyou Fuuin (Five Element seal)
	Wearer: Uzumaki Naruto When Orochimaru saw the power of the Kyuubi pouring forth from Naruto in the Forest of Death, he placed this seal around Naruto's Shisou Fuuin on his stomach. The seal served to disrupt Naruto's ability to control his chakra. Naruto was unable to harmonize his chakra with that of the Kyuubi, causing his chakra use to be wasteful and unsteady.
Unsealing
Gogyou Kaiin (Five Element Unseal)
	Caster: Jiraiya After Orochimaru placed the Gogyou Fuuin (Five Element Seal) on Naruto's chest to disrupt Naruto's chakra, Jiraiya was able to remove the seal with the unsealing method. Jiraiya gathered chakra into his hand, with each finger utilizing one of the elements, and then with a quick strike struck Naruto on the seal on his stomach and dispatched Orochimaru's seal.

Missions

Mission Guide
	In addition to acting as the army for their country, the ninja village also acts as a business. Each day clients will come to the village and pay for the services of the ninja. These jobs can range from the mundane (walk the feudal lord's dog), to the assassination of deadly wanted criminals. As needed the Kage or Jounin master of a Genin team can assign missions in furtherance of a duty to the country that are unpaid. These jobs are thus divided into difficulty ranks of S, A, B, C and D and then given to ninja based on their ability. If the mission is completed successfully, the client will then pay the village. The easiest and least deadly jobs are given to the Genin, these are called "D-Rank". The D-Rank missions also help to build teamwork skills among the new Ninja Academy graduates. D-Rank are therefore non-combat with low pay. The "C-Rank" missions will be given to Chuunin and skilled Genin. These include protective escorts and missions with some chance of bodily harm. It can include capturing wild animals and mine clearing. "B-Rank" missions will be given to Special Jounin and Chuunin. These also include protective escort, gathering foreign intelligence and killing of ninja. Open battle is generally not an issue during this mission type. The next highest rank missions, "A-Rank" are given to Jounin and Special Jounin. These include vital missions between nations, escorting VIPs and maneuvers against offensive ninja forces. Thus these missions will almost always involve combat and risk of death. At the highest and most dangerous is "S-rank", given to Jounin. These missions include assassination of important persons, transporting classified documents and materials. With the extreme danger comes a very high rate of pay. Caution, minor spoilers below. In the entries below, "Official" designate missions under order by the Hokage in the original manga. "Unofficial" mark missions carried out in anime filler, original animated videos or movies.
Destroy the Grass Country Bridge [Official]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable A) Team: Rin, Uchiha Obito > Hatake Kakashi Type: Destroy Status: Completed Approximately 13 years before the start of the series, Hatake Kakashi and his teammates Rin and Obito were ordered to destroy a bridge in the Grass Country. This was ordered to cut off a supply line for the advancing Hidden Rock army. The mission was a success but Obito died during its undertaking.
Lost Pet "Tora" Search Mission [Official]
	Rank: D Team: Haruno Sakura, Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke > Hatake Kakashi Type: Search Client: Madame Shijimi Status: Completed Team 7 was hired by the Feudal Lord's wife to find her lost cat. This early mission only served to frustrate Naruto. His complaints after this mission caused the Hokage to give the team their first C-Rank mission.
Protection of Bridge-builder Tazuna [Official]
	Rank: C (Rank A Difficulty) Team: Haruno Sakura, Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke > Hatake Kakashi Type: Escort Client: Tazuna Status: Completed Team 7 were hired to escort bridge builder Tazuna back to his home in the Wave Country. Though a C-Rank mission in name, this mission proved more deadly than Team 7 would have guessed. Had Tazuna revealed that ninja were targetting him, the mission cost and rank difficulty would have increased. Upon reaching the village entrance, Kakashi returned to Konoha for a Jounin meeting. Soon after the group came under attack from Rain and Waterfall missing-nins. With the help of Team 7, he ended their threat. Had Konoha been aware of the danger before the mission start, it would have probably been assigned a higher rank.

Find and Use the Bikochou [Unofficial]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable C) Team: Hyuuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba, Uzumaki Naruto > Aburame Shino Type: Search Status: Failed Looking for other avenues to track down Sasuke, Shino suggested they hunt the Bikochou. This was a rare bug which had excellent sent tracking abilities. When the team found the Bikochou's habitat, they learned rival bug users from Hidden Rock were also trying to find it. The team eventually found the Bikochou, but Naruto's clueless actions ruined their one chance to use its powerful scent tracking.

The team of Neji, Lee, TenTen and Naruto volunteered. Naruto joined in the hopes of gathering information about Kisame and Itachi, as the Kurosuki leader Raiga was once an associate of Kisame.
Capture Gosunkugi [Unofficial]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable C) Team: Hyuuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba, Uzumaki Naruto Type: Search/Capture Client: Tea Country Daimyou Status: Failed (Partial Success) Kiba, Hinata and Naruto were ordered to track down and capture the notorious thief Gosunkugi. Shino was originally scheduled to go on the mission but he was busy with another mission at the time. For that reason Naruto went in his place. Gosunkugi had stolen a valuable teapot from the Tea Country daimyou. Though the Leaf ninja eventually tracked him down, a bounty hunter named Sazanami caught him first and turned him over to authorities.

	Rank: Unknown (Probable C) Team: Hyuuga Neji, TenTen, Uzumaki Naruto > Hatake Kakashi Type: Search/Capture Client: Chishima Status: Completed The capital of the Bird Country had recently been terrorized by a ghostly warrior. Chishima, the attendant of a Bird Country minister came to Konoha in the hopes its ninja could investigate and take care of the ghostly figure. Konoha eventually learned who was acting as the ghost and help root out a plot to overthrow the country leadership.
Investigate the Sea Monster [Unofficial]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable C) Team: Aburame Shino, Uzumaki Naruto, Yamanaka Ino > Mitrashi Anko Type: Search/Destroy Client: Hitode Status: Completed The Sea Country sent payments to the Water Country for protection. When these boats came under attack from a mysterious Sea Monster, they contacted Konoha to help them stop it. The actual sea monster may have been two entities, the transformed Isaribi or Amachi's Umibouzu creature.
Protect Kunihisa [Unofficial]
	Rank: D Team: Uzumaki Naruto Type: Task Client: Kunijiro Status: Completed The skilled jeweler Kunijiro came to Hidden Leaf to arrange for a ninja to help babysit Kunihisa, his immature and selfish son. Kunihisa was obsessed with ninjas, so his father asked Konoha to watch over him for the day. While on the mission, Tsunade also assigned Naruto several other D rank missions, including picking up trash, repairing a bridge and getting rid of an unruly boar.
Treasure Hunt Training [Unofficial]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable D) Team: Hyuuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba, Uzumaki Naruto Type: Search/Training Client: Kaisen Agari Status: Completed Tsunade ordered Hinata, Kiba and Naruto to search for a buried treasure. She warned that if they failed they would be sent back to the Academy. When on the mission, the team was confronted by a clan which could copy their appearance. The trio moved to stop the clan and bring the treasure back. Upon completing the mission, they learned that it was all a test, to see how well they worked as a team since they failed many of their previous missions together.
Castle Repair [Unofficial]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable D) Team: Uzumaki Naruto Type: Task Status: Completed Tsunade dispatched Naruto on this "important" solo mission, which only entailed helping repair a castle, much to Naruto's disappointment.
Protect the Meteor [Unofficial]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable C) Team: Rock Lee, TenTen, Uzumaki Naruto > Hyuuga Neji Type: Protection Client: Hidden Star Status: Failed Hidden Star village sought help protecting their chakra enhancing meteor. When the Leaf ninja travelled to the Bear Country to assist, they uncovered a plot by the village leaders to use the meteor to sit equal with the Five Great Shinobi Countries. By the mission's end, the meteor was destroyed.
Retrieve Gaara from Akatsuki [Official]
	Rank: Unknown (Probable S) Team: Hatake Kakashi, Haruno Sakura, Hyuuga Neji, Maito Gai, Rock Lee, Tenten, Uzumaki Naruto Type: Rescue Status: Completed Team 7 and Team Guy were sent to help retrieve Gaara from Akatsuki. Though he died before they could rescue him, Sand Kunoichi Chiyo gave her life to resurrect him.
Meet Sasori's Spy [Official]

Ninja Positions

Ninja Positions
	Each Hidden Village breaks their ninja rankings into different levels of skill. This classification then helps determine what ninja level is needed to complete the mission. Higher difficulty missions require the utilization of higher skilled ninjas. These levels include Ninja Academy Student, Genin, Chuunin and Jounin. The Kage sits at the highest of the Five Great Shinobi Countries as the village leader. Within these rankings, a ninja may join a particular group which uses their skills in special ways. These specialized squads can focus on one field of work such as the hunting of ninjas who have gone missing and left their hidden village, or medical-nins who act as doctors.
ANBU
	Base of Operations: Hidden Village Classification: Specialized Ninja Squad Member Appearances: Uchiha Itachi, Hatake Kakashi, Uzuki Yuugao
The ANBU, meaning "dark side" is actually short for Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai (literally Assassination Tactics Special Military Force). The ANBU work directly under the leadership of the Hokage. This specialized ninja battalion generally work in groups of four to five. They are responsible for assassinations and missions requiring highly trained ninjas. ANBU "Ne" (Root)

The ANBU Ne, meaning Root, is a subfaction of the ANBU operated by elder ninja Danzou. Danzou operated in opposition to Sarutobi the Sandaime Hokage. Danzou was once up for the position of Sandaime Hokage but was turned down because of his hawkish militaristic stance. While the normal ANBU operates under the direct leadership of the Hokage, the Root faction operated from out of view "below the ground" to support the great tree that was Konoha. Members of Root were to only focus on the mission at hand, leaving their emotions, past, future and very name behind. Once Sarutobi gained enough control over Konoha, he ordered Root disbanded. Chuunin (Medium Ranked Level Ninja) [Official Rank]

Chuunin are made up of Genin who have passed the Chuunin exam by exhibiting leadership and excellent combat sense. Genin can either win or lose the last Chuunin Exam test. If they show sufficient qualities becoming of a Chuunin, they can be appointed and officially become Chuunin. Chuunin have the equivalent rank of military captain, exhibiting strong stamina, knowledge and inner wisdom.
Chuunin Exam Examiners

Elite Tutor

These special elite teachers tutor Jounin level ninjas to further refine their skills. The Elite tutor can also serve as the personal teacher to relatives of the Hokage.
Genin (Low Ranked Level Ninja) [Official Rank]
	Base of Operations: Hidden Village Classification: General Skill Level Member Appearances: Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Sasuke, Gaara of the Desert, Kinuta Dosu et. al.
At the lowest level are new graduates from the Ninja Academy known as Genin. Genin will be assigned a Jounin sensei, who will monitor their progress and help push for mission assignments benefiting their skill level. Should the Genin not impress the Jounin sensei, they can be sent back to the Ninja Academy for further training. Once the Genin has successfully undertaken eight missions, they can be sponsored by their Jounin sensei for the Chuunin Exam.
Hidden Village Council

Hunter Ninja

These shinobi hunters search for ninja who have abandoned their village. Nicknamed the "Undertaker Squad" they have a high knowledge in physiology to further their killing abilities. Once they kill their target, they will dispose of the body without a trace. This is because a ninja's body has within it secrets of the village's ninjutsu, chakra types, herbs and other information about the village. Jounin (High Ranked Level Ninja) [Official Rank]

Kage [Official Position in Five Great Shinobi Countries]

The Kage (Shadow) represents the head of each Hidden Village. Only the Five Great Shinobi Countries are allowed to call their head ninja by the Kage name. The Kage serves as the pillar upon which the village stands and the strength a village presents to the other ninja countries largely depends upon the strength of the Kage in power. When one Hokage decides to step down from the position, a new Kage is nominated and then approved by the Village Council. "Kage" Level

There exists a level of ninja who are of Kage level, but who are not presently a village Kage. This may be because of personal preference or the onset of aging. The three highly skilled Hidden Leaf ninja known as the Legendary "Sannin," or Legendary "Three Ninja" are such ninja. The members of Akatsuki are also generally at this level as well. Legendary Sand puppet master kunoichi Chiyo of Hidden Sand could be considered near this level. Ninja of this level usually leave their villages behind to seek their own ambitions.

	The ninja in a hidden village have their own skill levels which help delineate what rank they are. The most talented ninja in the village is generally the Kage who leads the village, the lowest tier is made up of those young individuals training in the ninja academy. Listed below is the ranking from lowest skill level to highest. Groups such as the ANBU are not a level, but rather a specialized unit made up of ninja from the Chuunin and Jounin levels.
Ninja Academy Student
	Ninja Academy students like Konohamaru are taught the basic jutsu skills. Once they have mastered the needed skills, they are able to graduate and become actual ninja. However if the new Genin do not impress their Jounin sensei, they can be sent back to the Academy for further training.
Genin
	Genin are the lowest of ninja skill levels. They possess a knowledge of all the basic ninja skills and will do lower C & D rank missions with their Jounin sensei. Once the Genin has successfully undertaken eight missions, they can be sponsored by their Jounin sensei for the Chuunin Exam.
Chuunin
	The Chuunin is the basic journeyman ninja of the village. These ninja can become field doctors or teachers. They were formerly Genin who were promoted for displaying excellent intelligence, strategy and combat skills in the Chuunin Exam. Chuunin have the equivalent rank of military captain, exhibiting strong stamina, knowledge and inner wisdom.
Special Jounin
	Special Jounin are ninjas who have gained high Jounin-level skills in one area of ninja arts. These are ninja like Morino Ibiki, who is highly skilled at interrogation and torture. Ninja attain the rank of Special Jounin through official appointment.
Jounin
	The Jounin are ninja who are highly skilled in all jutsu skills and arts. Ninja attain the rank of Jounin through official appointment. The Jounin generally serve as squad commander for mission operations.
Kage
	The village Kage is the strongest ninja in the hidden village. The Kage serves as the pillar upon which the village stands and the strength a village presents to the other ninja countries largely depends upon the strength of the Kage in power. They have excellent chakra and stamina and know the most jutsu techniques. Only the Five Great Shinobi Countries are allowed to call their head ninja by the Kage name.

Kage Guide
	Out of all the shinobi countries of the world of Naruto, the five most powerful are allowed to call their leaders by the Kage (Shadow) title. These five individuals are called the "Five Kage," they are Watershadow (Mizukage), Fireshadow (Hokage), Windshadow (Kazekage) , Earthshadow (Tsuchikage) and Lightningshadow (Raikage). The Kage are the leaders of their respective hidden villages and the ninja which inhabit their country. So far eleven Kage have had some part in the world of Naruto. They are depicted below. Warning! The listing of these Kage go through the most recent chapters of the manga. So you may see Kage who have yet to appear in your viewing of the anime.
Shodai Hokage (First Fire Shadow)
	One of the founders of Leaf, Senju Hashirama helped establish the ideal of all the Hokage who followed. The Hokage serves as the foundation which Leaf village sits. The Hokage would love his village and do all in his power to protect it, even giving his life in the line of duty to ensure its survival.
Nidaime Hokage (Second Fire Shadow)
	Senju Tobirama also helped in the founding of Leaf, he was the younger brother of Hashirama. Like the First Hokage, Tobirama helped establish the principle that the Hokage will die for those people precious to them.
Sandaime Hokage (Third Fire Shadow)
	The Third Hokage became Hokage at a very young age. He was chosen as Hokage over another talented ninja named Danzou. Sarutobi Hiruzen was known as the Professor, a ninja with extraordinary skill and knowledge of jutsu. He would later pass on his knowledge to his students Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru. Jiraiya would then in turn pass on his knowledge to Namikaze Minato, who would become the Fourth Hokage. After the Fourth Hokage's death, the Third came out of retirement to lead his village again.
Yondaime Hokage (Fourth Fire Shadow)
	The Third Hokage first wanted Orochimaru to succeed him, but his evil ways caused Hiruzen to choose Namikaze Minato instead. The Fourth Hokage was faced with a difficult challenge not long after being appointed. One of the great demons, the Kyuubi fox attacked his village. Many ninja died and the Fourth had to give his life to beat the Kyuubi and imprison him in his newborn son. His death caused the Third Hokage to come out of retirement and act as Hokage once again.
Godaime Hokage (Fifth Fire Shadow)
	Though Tsunade was the granddaughter of the First Hokage and a student of the Third Hokage, she was reluctant to become the Fifth Hokage. Her boyfriend and little brother both had dreams of becoming Hokage and died while trying to further that goal. When she met Uzumaki Naruto she thought that he was also going down a foolish path, but his hard work and determination inspired her to think that becoming Hokage was a worthwhile thing.
Rokudaime Hokage (Sixth Fire Shadow)
	After Tsunade exhausted herself saving the village when Akatsuki leader Pain attacked, she fell into an unconscious state. Danzou then made his move to convince the Fire Country Daimyou that he was the best choice to be the next Hokage.
Shodai Kazekage (First Wind Shadow)
	Shodai Kazekage helped found Hidden Sand and went on to become its kage.
Nidaime Kazekage (Second Wind Shadow)
	Nidaime Kazekage served as the kage of Hidden Sand.
Sandaime Kazekage (Third Wind Shadow)
	The Third Kazekage was said to be the most gifted kage in Hidden Sand's history with his ability to manipulate Iron Sand. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances right before war broke out. Years later it was revealed he was killed by expert puppet maker Sasori and turned into his most prized puppet.
Yondaime Kazekage (Fourth Wind Shadow)
	The Fouth Kazekage replaced his predecessor who disappeared under myserious circumstances. He was the father of Gaara, Temari and Kankurou and he ordered the Shukaku demon be implanted into his unborn son Gaara. After falling in battle to Orochimaru, a new Kazekage was appointed to replace him.
Godaime Kazekage (Fifth Wind Shadow)
	After Naruto and Jiraiya left for 2 1/2 years to train, Gaara was appointed as Fifth Kazekage of Hidden Sand. The village council appointed Gaara on the notion he was now more in control of his homicidal tendencies.
Mizukage (Water Shadow)
	The Mizukage is the leader of Hidden Mist Village. It is unknown how many Mizukage there have been. When Tobi revealed his true identity as Madara to Kisame, Hoshigaki Kisame identified him as the Mizukage. Momochi Zabuza fled Hidden Mist after a failed assassination of the Mizukage. It is unknown if this was Madara, or some other Mizukage.
Mizukage (Water Shadow)
	Some time after Uchiha Madara, this kunoichi became the current Mizukage of Hidden Mist.
Raikage (Lightning Shadow)
	The Raikage is the leader of Hidden Cloud Village. It is unknown how many Raikage there have been. The Raikage sought to obtain the Byakugan from Konoha, and dispatched a team to kidnap Hyuuga Hinata. The current Raikage is the brother of Killer Bee, the Eight-Tails Jinchuuriki. After his brother was captured by Akatsuki, he sought a meeting of the Five Kages to discuss dealing with Akatsuki.
Tsuchikage (Earth Shadow)
	The Tsuchikage is the leader of Hidden Rock Village. It is unknown how many Tsuchikage there have been, this man is the current Tsuchikage. Due to his advanced age, he may have become Kage at an early age, possibly making him the Second or Third Tsuchikage.

	The following ninja act as their village leader. *Note they are not* Kages.** Only the head ninja from the Five Great Shinobi Countries may use the title of "Kage". The individuals thus operate under their real name only.
Akahoshi [Hidden Star]
	Akahoshi replaced the Third "Hoshikage" after his sudden death. The position of "Kage" within Hidden Star has not been recognized by the Five Great Shinobi Nations. Most in the village believe the usage of the chakra enhancing meteor will make the village powerful enough to be on equal footing with the other five nations. With the death of Akahoshi and the destruction of the meteor, the use of "Kage" will probably end. It is currently unknown who is leading the village.
Hanzou [Hidden Rain]
	Hanzou acted as the leader of Hidden Rain for a number of years. When civil war broke out, the rebel leader Pain killed Hanzou and took control of the country.
Pain [Hidden Rain]
	Though he acts as the leader of Akatsuki, Pain also led the Hidden Rain rebel ninjas in their civil war against their home village. Pain used his skills to eventually take out Hanzou.
Shinnou [Hidden Sky]
	Hidden Sky fought against Konoha in one of the Great Ninja Wars. Their forces were decimated. The village eventually rebuilt their power under the medical ninja Shinnou.
Kazahana Dotou [Hidden Snow]
	After having his brother the Daimyou of the Snow Country killed, Dotou formed Hidden Snow and sought enough power to defeat the Five Great Shinobi Countries. He was eventually killed and Hidden Snow's future is unclear.
Orochimaru [Hidden Sound]
	Forced to flee Hidden Leaf because of his forbidden experiments, Orochimaru went north and gathered many despondent ninja and clans. With his identity hidden, he formed Hidden Sound and set out to destroy Konoha once and for all.
Shibuki's Father [Hidden Waterfall]
	This man served as the head of Hidden Waterfall in the past. When Waterfall came under foreign attack, he ingested the village's Hero water. Unfortunately he wasn't young enough to survive the effects of the water and he passed away shortly afterwards. His son Shibuki took over as Hidden Waterfall leader after his passing.
Shibuki [Hidden Waterfall]
	After his father died, Shibuki took control of Hidden Waterfall. Shibuki was unprepared for the role early on, but eventually he accepted his position and strove to do all he could to protect his village.

Summonings

Kuchiyose no Jutsu - Summonings
A powerful jutsu, Ninpo Kuchiyose allows a ninja to summon animals, objects and the dead to fight on their behalf. The ninja normally signs a blood contract with the animal species, which allows them to summon different size and skill levels of creature. The ability to summon more advanced animals largely depends upon the amount of chakra the ninja can muster to perform the jutsu. By signing this contract, the creatures themselves can also reverse summon the contract signer to their location. To summon the creature the ninja will wipe blood on the hand, perform the necessary handseals and then touch their hand to the ground or another object. Though it appears that as long as significant pressure is placed against the blood in some form, the summon will be complete. There can be variations to the summoning steps, some ninja like Temari will wipe blood on her fan, then by swinging the fan the animal is summoned. Other ninja like Orochimaru wipe the blood across a snake tattoo on their arm first, then touch the ground.

Anko's Giant Snake (Unnamed)

Kamatari

This animal is the personal summon of the Sand ninja Temari. To summon the creature, Temari wipes blood on her fan and then does her Kirkirimai (Whirl) technique. After she swings her fan the itachi (weasel) is summoned with a huge scythe as well as several other small kama (sickles). The result is a huge swath of destruction. Other than Naruto, Temari is the only Genin so far who has been shown to possess the needed chakra to summon a creature.

Key Toad

This giant spider is the personal summon of the Sound ninja Kidoumaru.
Kubisaki Kouza's Giant Lizard

This giant lizard was the personal summon of Neck Country leader Kubisaki Kouza. Kouza's country was besieged and his citizens wiped out by an enemy army. He retreated to his castle and summoned this gigantic lizard to linger after his death. The lizard took on the form of his castle and ate any who came inside. After many years Kouza's spirit returned to guide Naruto, Kiba and Hinata to his summoning contract to destroy it, which would finally let the animal return from whence it came.

These two toad sennin, Shima and Fukasaku, acted as advisors to the elder toad sage. They had the ability to combine with Jiraiya to enter his "Sennin" mode. This mode changed Jiraiya's form and allowed him to access natural energy. This form also allowed him to utilize Fukasaku and Shima's jutsu.
Person Summonings
Fourth Hokage
	Location: Hidden Leaf Classification: Human Summon Character Affiliation: Team Namikaze
The Fourth Hokage was well known for his ability to transport himself across distances using his shiki (rites). This gave rise to his nick name "Konoha's Yellow Flash." Upon placing his rite upon an object he could summon his body to that location. This unique ability allowed him to go to a location without being called upon by someone else. He used this ability to also place his rite on a kunai he gave as a gift to Kakashi. When the kunai was thrown, he would recognize he was needed and instantly travel to that location.
Umino Iruka (Chuunin Examiners)
	Location: Hidden Leaf Classification: Human Summon Character Affiliation: Team 7
Genin who managed to collect both the Heaven and Earth scrolls in the Chuunin Exam were to open them after making it to the central tower. A Chuunin Examiner was then be summoned to congratulate the Genin. However, if the Genin opened the scrolls before reaching the tower, they would be knocked unconscious and eliminated from the exam. Iruka went on to explain how the "Heaven" scroll represented the mind, and the "Earth" the body. By knowing ones strengths and weaknesses they can train and improve. These qualities help one grow stronger and wiser and thus worthy of becoming a Chuunin.
Oboro
	Location: Hidden Rain Classification: Human Summon Character Affiliation: Team Oboro
Team Oboro used a summoning scroll to transport its team members across large distances. After forming the needed hand seals, the team member will slap their palm against the "person" kanji on the scroll to summon the teammate to their location.
Rikudou Bodies
	Location: Hidden Rain Classification: Human Summon Character Affiliation: Pain
Pain's Rinnegan allows him to make use of the Rikudou (Six Realms). Thus his Animal Realm body can use animal Kushiyose. By summoning his other bodies, he can use the Rinnegan to utilize their sensory information and abilities in battle.
First Hokage

The forbidden jutsu Edo Tensei was used by Orochimaru in an apparent attempt to bring back the soul of the Fourth Hokage into a sacrificed body. This failed due to the actions of the Third Hokage, who was able to prevent the summon from completing.
Experimental Bodies

To assist in his experiments, Kabuto carries a scroll that contains male and female corpses. These bodies are arranged by age and sex. With Kabuto's skills in altering the appearances of corpses, he can use these bodies as diversionary tactics.

Nagato can summon this large statue which can directly connect to his body. Once connected, it can extend a spectral dragon which can remove the souls of anyone it passes through. This statue may be the same or related to the bound King of Hell statue Akatsuki uses.
Giant Mace

To save space and allow freedom of movement, Kotetsu carries a giant mace in a summoning scroll.
Giant Shuriken

King of Hell Statue

The Akatsuki organization uses the King of Hell statue to hold the bijuu it withdraws from captured Jinchuuriki. Pain can summon this statue wherever the group currently meets. Each time a bijuu is sealed within the statue, one of its nine eyes opens.

Sai's Secret Orders

Sai was given secret orders by ANBU Root leader Danzou. The orders were located in a book sealed within two scrolls. To summon the book, Sai had to unfurl the scrolls and lay their centers across each other. He would then place his palms on the "Hands" area of one scroll. This would then grant permission to the other scroll's "Secret" marker to summon the book itself.
Shikokumujin Canister
	Location: Hidden Sound Classification: Object Summon Character Affiliation: Sakon See also: Sasuke
This canister is used as a vessel to contain the dark matter generated by the Shikokumujin technique. When the matter covers one in the canister who has taken the Seishingan drug, the individual can forcibily adjust to their stage two cursed seal infection.
Shuriken

In preparation for his battle with his brother Itachi, Sasuke affixed a seal marked Ken (Blade) to each of his wrists. These seals allowed him to summon shuriken of different sizes, including normal shuriken and giant size Fuuma shuriken.
TenTen's Tobidougu (Projectile Weapons)

After using her Soushouryuu technique, TenTen can summon projectile weapons from the scrolls. These weapons are connected to her fingers with really fine wire, which allows her to pull back the weapons and send them at her opponent multiple times.
Rashoumon

The sealed gate Rashoumon can serve as a barrier when needed by Orochimaru. The Sound-Nin brothers Sakon and Ukon must both initiate the summoning at the same time to bring forth the gate. Orochimaru himself can summon three of these gates by drawing blood on both his right and left thumbs.

Hyakki no Souen

These hundred puppets are said to be Sasori's last and ultimate puppets, his "Red Secret Technique". Made using his hitokugutsu technique, the puppets were once human who fell in battle to Sasori. Sasori would take their forms and turn them into puppets, allowing him to use their skills and abilities as their own.
Jikki Chikamatsu no Shuu

These puppets were made by the first Kugutsu no Jutsu user, Chikamatsu Monzaemon. The puppets were passed on to the hands of Hidden Sand user Chiyo. She uses the puppets as her ultimate technique, her "White Secret Technique".

After adding more puppets to his arsenal, Kankurou began to carry them in scrolls to allow him better freedom of movement until the time they are needed.
Sandaime Kazekage

Sasori defeated the Sandaime Kazekage in battle and used his hitokugutsu jutsu to turn him into a puppet. This puppet retained all of the Kazekage's abilities, even in death.
Sasori's Parents

These puppets were made by Sasori in the image of his dead parents. After he fled his village, they remained behind to be used by Chiyo.

Amachi summoned this Umibouzu (sea monster) to help him terrorize the Sea Country. Something more than sea water and something less than a sentient being, the Umibouzu is a moving water technique that obeys Amachi's command.

The Jinchuuriki

The Jinchuuriki and their Bijuu

"Jinchuuriki" meaning the "power of human sacrifice", are those individuals possessing tailed demons within their bodies. The demons themselves are known by the number of tails their body possesses, and each has different characteristics. Shukaku ("Ichibi") is the One-Tailed Tanuki, "Nibi" is the Two-Tailed Cat, "Sanbi" is the Three-Tailed Turtle, "Yonbi" is a Four-Tailed Ape, "Gobi" is a Five-Tailed Horse-Whale, "Rokubi" is a Six-Tailed Gastropod, "Shichibi" is a Seven-Tailed Rhino Beetle, "Hachibi" is the Eight-Tailed Ox-Cephalopod and "Kyuubi" is the Nine-Tailed Fox. The only known named Jinchuuriki are Gaara of the Sand, Nii Yugito, Yagura, Roushi, Han, Utakata, Fuu, Killer Bee and Uzumaki Naruto. Sanbi is the only known bijuu without a host, though it was housed within a Mist ninja named Yagura at some point in the past.

The bijuu are creatures of great power and destruction, and all the ninja nations coveted that power and sought to make it their own as weapons. As various clans began to come together as villages, Shodai Hokage sought to stabilize the balance of power. He did so by capturing the Bijuu and offering them to specific villages. This unimaginable power proved difficult to manage however, requiring literal sacrifices to gain control. Several jutsu variations have been used to seal a bijuu within a human. Yondaime Hokage used his Shiki Fuujin technique to capture the rampaging Kyuubi and seal it within Naruto. The jutsu had a high price, resulting in his own death. The Ichibi Shukaku was sealed into the unborn body of Gaara, with the sacrifice taking the form of his mother, who died as a result of his birth.

Shukaku has previously been imbued into two Sand ninja. When their time as possessor came to an end, Shukaku was removed from their bodies at the cost of their own lives. Such a result has been the only shown way to remove the bijuu from a Jinchuuriki. It requires a Fuuin (Sealing) Jutsu capable of resonating at the same power frequency as that between the bijuu and their human host over a period of time. Akatsuki used one such method which took three days to accomplish, with that time increasing based on the number of members participating. This GenryuuKyuu Fuujin (Mystical Dragon Nine Exhaustion) was used to remove six bijuu, resulting in the deaths Gaara, Yugito, Roushi, Han, Utakata and Fuu.

The hope of Jinchuuriki creation is for the human and the tailed beast to resonate together, thereby granting the human some measure of their immense power. Each beast appears to interact with their host in unique ways, and grant their host power in different amounts. The life of a Jinchuuriki has been seen to be a difficult one. Many see the Jinchuuriki as the demon itself, and fear and shun them. This causes many to become dejected outcasts who become angry with the world. Gaara became crazy and felt alone because of his demon but he eventually gained his village's respect. Yuugito and Killer Bee were respected and loyal to their village. Naruto also grew angry with the world and turned to pranks to get everyone to recognize him. He was eventually accepted by the village. Roushi had no village ties after leaving Hidden Rock, so he wandered the world. Two other Jinchuuriki also grew distant from the world, with their villages not exerting any effort to save them when Akatsuki came to capture them.

This guide will examine the mythology and history of the demons in the real world and in-universe, biographical information on the beasts and their human hosts and how the beasts affect their hosts.

Gaara and Ichibi

Info: Chiyo imbued the demon Shukaku into the Kazekage's son Gaara. Gaara lead a lonely life until he met Uzumaki Naruto. He pledged himself to prove his worth and protect his village. His drive led him to become Kazekage. He was defeated in battle by Deidara and Akatsuki removed the Shukaku demon from within Gaara, killing him. He was later revived by Chiyo, but he was no longer a Jinchuuriki. He retained some sand control powers however.

The Bijuu

History and Myth

The tanuki is species of dog found in Japan. The species has been called "raccoon dog" because of their similar appearance. Thetanuki has been renowned for its mischievous nature and ability to shape shift and bring good fortune. The Naruto Shukaku has ties to several tanuki archetypes. One is the Bunbuku Chagama tale, where a tanuki transformed into a tea kettle. In the series Shukaku was reported to have been sealed within one. Some tales state of shrine priests being tanuki in disguise, which ties into how early in the series Shukaku was reportedly a corrupted Sand priest.

Chiyo is an elder Sand kunoichi who sealed the Shukaku demon in Gaara under the direction of his father the Yondaime Kazekage. Chiyo previously helped seal the one-tailed demon into two Sand ninja and assisted in its removal when the time came.

Early in the series Shukaku was said to be the corrupted spirit of a Sand priest. We now know he is actually one of the tailed demons of the world. Shukaku the one-tail has been in three Sand ninja total. One of his previous hosts inspired Sandaime Kazekage in his usage of iron sand. Shukaku provokes insomnia in his host vessels, should they sleep Shukaku will eat away at their personality. When the host is awake, Shukaku's powers are limited. If the host builds a new Shukaku body and falls unconscious, the demon can run riot once again. Shukaku is loud and flamboyant in his speech, probably as a result of not being released very often. With his capture by Akatsuki, it is unknown what lies in his future.

Influence

Appearance

Shukaku lied dormant within Gaara but could operate freely when Gaara slept. Because of the dangerous nature of Shukaku in this free wheeling state, Gaara went without sleep. As a result his eyes become dark and discolored. Stylistically this enhanced his ties to the tanuki, as the species has a dark area around their eyes.

Other features which cause Gaara to resemble a tanuki is the gourd on his back, many depictions of the tanuki feature a gigantic gourd-shaped scrotum which it sometimes slings over its shoulders.

Benefits

Automated defense: Gaara's utilization of the one-tailed Shukaku demon takes several forms. The sand demon provides Gaara with an automatic shield defense, protecting him from strikes. The automated defense is limited in speed though, a fast enough attack can reach Gaara's body before the sand can catch up to defend.

Power: Using his own chakra to encase his foes in sand, Gaara would constrict and crush his opponents. In turn their blood would strengthen Shukaku. When the sand returned to Gaara's gourd, the blood of the victim would be mixed in. The exact reason why the blood strengthened Shukaku is unknown.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form

Utilizing the sand from his Gourd and the surrounding area, Gaara would cover himself to attain his "perfect" form. To prepare him for this state, Gaara would enter his sand cocoon. When prepared, Gaara would emerge as a small version of Shukaku. This "mini-Shukaku" form allowed Gaara to hurl sand shuriken and use techniques such as Mugen Sajin Daitoppa. The final perfected version is a large scale usage which allows Shukaku himself to emerge and run rampant. Gaara will first gather a gigantic amount of sand into a large-Shukaku form. He will then use the Feigned Sleep technique to fall unconscious an allow Shukaku to control the large sand form. This form was said to have horrified Temari, and been the cause of much destruction in the past.

Other Shukaku Influences

Beyond being used to cause much destruction while he himself is asleep, Gaara uses techniques which show the influence of Shukaku upon him. These include the set-up for Sabaku Rou with its Shukaku claw-esque tendrils and Shukaku no Tate, said to be Gaara's Saikou Zettai Bougyo (Supreme Absolute Defense).

She contained the two-tailed cat demon called an ikiryou, or "living ghost". She was defeated in battle by Hidan and Kakuzu. Akatsuki then removed the Nibi from within Yugito, killing her.

The Bijuu

History and Myth

The feline is a common species throughout the world and stories of cat bakemono (monsters) are popular throughout Japan. In myth the neko-mata (forked-cat) is said to be an older cat that has had its tail split in two. Reportedly large in size, these cats are said have the ability to manipulate the dead like puppets and have been associated with strange fires and occurrences. This may be related to the Nibi's ikiryou (living ghost) nickname and fire-breathing abilities.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Full Beast)

Yugito maintains a high level of control over her Jinchuuriki-bijuu form. With chakra emanating from out of her, she will hunch over and the Nibi demon itself will materialize. Smaller than the similar Shukaku form, the Nibi still proves a threat. In this form Yugito is able to emit fiery spectral blasts from the cat's mouth. These blasts are very destructive and when coupled with the Nibi strength, the surrounding area can be reduced to rubble.

Info: Akatsuki tracked down the location of the Sanbi, the three-tailed demon, which has the characteristics of turtles and shrimp. In the past, the Sanbi was imbued within a ninja from Hidden Mist named Yagura. When Akatsuki captured it, Sanbi was "in the wild," with no Jinchuuriki host. For this reason he was weaker, as he could not properly control his power. Tobi was assigned to capture this demon and did so with the assistance of Deidara. This demon was succesfully sealed in the King of Hell by the group.

The Bijuu

History and Myth

The turtle is a common species throughout the world and stories of turtle and sea bakemono (monsters) have spread throughout Japan. In one myth, the Suppon no Yurei is the spirit of an eaten turtle. In the story three men were haunted by the spirit of a turtle they had eaten. The experience harmed them so much they were put into a state of shock for three days. Other sea monsters like the Umibouzu have been described as a green turtle, which is huge in size and is said to attack fisherman.

The Bijuu

History and Myth

The great ape family includes chimpanzees, gorillas, humans and orangutans. In one myth, the Satori is mountain-dwelling ape-like creature. In another classic Chinese folk novel, Journey to the West, a young monkey named Sun Wukong goes on an adventure. This story would later inspire other authors, including Akira Toriyama in his Dragon Ball series. Dragon Ball would feature a main character who could transform into a large ape-like creature.

Gastropoda are a class of animals second only to insects in its number of known species. They live in a diversity of habitats, including rivers, deserts, oceans and caves. some slugs excrete a thick coating of mucus around their bodies. The mucus secreted helps prevent the slug from slipping down vertical surfaces. The mucus also provides a method of protection, as it can make the slug hard to pick up and hold. In myth, the Sazae-oni was a turban snail demon who could change form.

The rhinoceros beetle is among the largest of beetles found in the world. They are also among the strongest animals on the planet in relation to their own size. The rhino beetle's penchant for fighting other males of the species has made them a popular gambling subject in Asia. Beetles are characterized by a hard exoskeleton and forewings, which creates a flexible armored defense. The forewings are not used for flight, but tend to cover the hind part of the body and protect the second pair of wings that are used for that purpose. Some beetle families are not capable of flight.

After Uchiha Madara swayed Sasuke to his side, he sent the young man after this Bijuu. They eventually found the Cloud ninja training in the mountains. Killer Bee is marked by a tattoo of "iron" on his shoulder and bull horns on his cheek. He also wields eight swords, taking the form of seven real swords and a tailed state form. He posseses the ability to become his Bijuu, that of a tentacled ox beast. He was eventually knocked out by Sasuke's Amaterasu and taken for sealing. His body was revealed as a transformed tentacle, while the real Bee was still safe in Lightning. This allowed Bee to escape capture and evade Akatsuki.

History and Myth

In some myths, the Ushi-Oni is sea creature commonly seen with an ox head and the body of another multi-limbed creature. The Hachibi appears based on this creature. The Cephalopod (class including squid and octopi) is an animal seen throughout the oceans and stories of giant sea creatures have been seen in Japan and throughout many cultures. In other non-Japanese myths, the Kraken is a giant squid capable of terrorizing large ships. The mysterious giant squid itself was finally seen in its natural habitat only recently by researchers.

Influence

Appearance

This tattoo is worn on the left cheek of Killer Bee. The tattoo is that of ox horns, but it also resembles octopus arms. Together they are the two animals of his bijuu, an Ushi-Oni.

Other features which cause him to resemble a cephalopod are the two strands hanging from his belt, which resemble squid tentacles.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Eight-Tail)

Killer Bee maintains a high level of control over his Jinchuuriki-Bijuu form. With chakra emanating from out of his body, a cloak and cephalopod arm-tails will form. These tails will form their own individual chakra tails, and also individually envelope his ropes strands and scarf. In total he will have five pure chakra tails and three chakra tails covering his clothing. He can also use two of the pure chakra tails as ox horns in his Rariatto technique, to barrel through his foes.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Full Beast)

Killer Bee maintains a high level of control over his Jinchuuriki-bijuu form. After calling forth the Hachibi, Killer Bee will take on the beast's full appearance. In this form Killer Bee is able to emit a dark compressed chakra blast, which is capable of blasting through most anything.

Info: Yondaime Hokage imprisoned the Kyuubi within Naruto after it attacked Konoha. Like many Jinchuuriki, Naruto lead a lonely life. Over time though, he gained friends and left his life of despair behind. He has been trained by the Sannin Jiraiya to make full use of Jinchuuriki gifts.

The Bijuu

History and Myth

The Kyuubi is a kitsune or fox. In myth the fox was said to change shape and have long life and use magic. The number of tails the kitsune possesses is said to tie into their length of life, with one tail said to be gained for every 100 years of life. Their powers will also grow as they age. At 1,000 years and nine-tails, the fox attains near-deity like powers.

Yondaime Hokage sacrificed his life to seal the Kyuubi within the baby Naruto. He was reported to have used the Shiki Fuujin technique to seal the Kyuubi within Naruto, then used the Hakke no Fuuin Shiki & Shishou Fuuin seal styles to keep the Kyuubi within Naruto. The seal created an internalized prison for the Kyuubi, with a barrier gate and seal holding him within. The seal was designed so the Kyuubi's chakra could exit the prison and enter Naruto, which Yondaime Hokage knew would help Naruto.

Influence

Appearance

After the Kyuubi was placed into his body, three facial markings appeared on Naruto's cheeks. When Naruto gets very angry and his uncontrolled Kyuubi power leaks out, the whiskers grow in size and become more feral looking. His eyes also turn from blue to red. His teeth and fingernails also grow longer and sharper.

Other features which cause Naruto to resemble a fox is the orange, black and white color of his outfit, his penchant for mischief and the squinty look to his eyes when confused.

Benefits

Chakra: In the beginning Naruto was able to draw on the Kyuubi's chakra in times of heightened emotional distress and anger. After training with Jiraiya, Naruto was able to learn to draw on the Kyuubi's chakra at will. This chakra allows Naruto to use jutsu beyond his normal ability range, such as summoning Gamabunta.

Chakra Defense: When Kyuubi enhanced in his normal form, the swirling red chakra can deflect incoming attacks. When in his tailed form, his body is encased in a red fox aura generated by the Kyuubi inside him. Though the chakra will appear to protect him from outside harm, it is constantly damaging his body. It destroys the cells and then later regenerates them. At higher levels of Kyuubi chakra concentration, such as in the four-tails state, the chakra itself becomes poison to outside touch. Should flesh touch the burning Kyuubi form, it will be burned and poisoned by the chakra. Simple medical healing alone will not heal the wound.

Chakra Offense: The Kyuubi chakra in his tailed form can be used offensively. Naruto can extend this chakra into arms which can grab and strike at his opponents. These deadly limbs are near unpredictable and can extend far away from his central body. From his four-tailed form, this attack becomes even more refined. He is able to strike quick and if his main body gets hit, it can melt away allowing him to attack from another angle. He can also release this deadly chakra in massive bursts, destroying everything around it outwards spherically. In one of his deadliest attacks, he can swallow a mixture of the dark Kyuubi chakra and his own blood and then fire the chakra in a huge blast.

Healing: Because Kyuubi's life is tied to Naruto's own, one side affect of their union is the Kyuubi healing Naruto when injured. Unfortunately extended use from high levels of healing is killing Naruto. Because cells have a finite lifespan, the body's heavy regeneration when critically injured is shortening his life.

Unleashed Bijuu Power Form

The first Kyuubi form revealed in the series, this form grants Naruto some measure of Kyuubi's chakra. This form typically emerges when Naruto becomes enraged. His whiskers turn more feral and his eyes turn red. His hair becomes bushy, his incisors grow longer and his fingernails grow sharp. In this form he is surrounded in the Kyuubi chakra and is able to move more quickly, use more chakra draining jutsu, heal his body faster and strike with more force.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (One-Tail)

When Naruto fought Sasuke at the Valley of the End, he was desperate to get his friend to return to Konoha. The fight pushed Naruto past his limits. When the fight began to turn in Sasuke's favor, the Kyuubi granted Naruto even more power than before, causing the red chakra surrounding Naruto to boil and bubble and take on the shape of a fox with long ears and a tail. This chakra is not bound to Naruto's body, being able to move and extend in as striking limbs. Though Naruto remains conscious in this state, the chakra can seemingly react of its own will. In this state the chakra will also act as a defense against incoming attacks.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Two-Tail)

When entering the two-tail state, Naruto becomes even more beast-like in appearance. His eyes grow larger and become outlined in a rough black. His incisor teeth also grow even larger than before. In a curious extension between the original Naruto and his shadow clones, when he entered this state his clones began to feel an intense burning within them, causing them to double over in pain.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Three-Tail)

Naruto's three-tail form resembles that of two-tails. In this state Naruto was able to roar and extend chakra outwards to devastating result. This outwards destructive sphere of chakra was so intense so as to destroy surrounding matter and violently push back any incoming attack with but a simple roar.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Four-Tail)

In this form Naruto loses all sense of himself, becoming a pure destructive beast with no regard for even his closest friends. In Naruto's internal Kyuubi prison, he crosses the protective barrier and falls into Kyuubi's grasp. Externally the Kyuubi chakra begins to melt off Naruto's very skin. His body changes to resemble the bushy whiskers on his face when enraged, and his hands form sharp claws. Ears and four tails extend from his body and he roars with a sharp maw of teeth. This form proves insanely destructive, able to roar, swipe and attack with hugely destructive results. And should any foes dare touch his form, they'll be burned by the intense heat. Unfortunately such prolonged usage of the Kyuubi tailed state is further weakening the seal Yondaime Hokage used to contain the bijuu.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Six-Tail)

This six-tails state is a further expansion on the four-tailed form. Naruto first encases himself in the poisonous red chakra. After the feral form is generated, bones will grow to form a fox skeleton to surround Naruto.

Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Eight-Tail)

This eight-tails state is a further expansion on the six-tailed form. Within Naruto's internal Kyuubi prison, the seal on his stomach will twist, releasing more of Kyuubi's chakra. With the skeletal structure formed by going six-tails, muscles grow to surround the body. Because the seventh tail forms and ninth tail forms have not been seen, they possibly involve some further expanion on the "Kyuubi growth". Meaning that steps could possibly be the following: six - bones, seven - internal organs, eight - muscles, nine - skin.

Jinchuuriki Control

A power unique to Shodai Hokage was the ability to control Jinchuuriki and Bijuu. This ability was enhanced by his crystallized chakra necklace. Orochimaru deeply coveted this power and carried out forbidden experiments on many subjects. He spliced the genes of Shodai himself into these subjects in the hopes they would gain his ability to control bijuu and use Mokuton techniques. Only one subject survived and proved successful, Yamato, who would grow into a skilled ninja in his own right. Other sealing jutsu have also been developed to upset or alter the bijuu chakra influence on the host.

Hokage Shiki Jijun Jutsu • Kakuan Nitten Suishu is a Ninjutsu technique unique to the First Hokage and his genetically infused double Yamato, however because Yamato is not Shodai himself, he does not have the same level of control. This hidden technique allows both men to control Jinchuuriki in conjunction with the unique crystallized chakra necklace. The crystal necklace responds to the First Hokage's chakra, which in turn allows them to control the chakra of the Jinchuuriki. This power was so coveted, it was said to be the reason Shodai was made Hokage, and why Yamato was made by Orochimaru.

To use the technique, a complex string of handseals will be used, and the user's palm will be extended. The palm will bear the "sit" kanji. Drawing close, the user will place their palm on the chest of the Jinchuuriki and then withdraw, an emanation of chakra will then follow from the seal to the palm. Spiked posts will rise and surround the Jinchuuriki to corral them. In a short time, the Jinchuuriki's bijuu manifestation and chakra will withdraw from their body into the chest seal, eventually returning them to normal.

Gogyou Fuuin - Five Elements Seal

Gogyou Fuuin is a Fuuinjutsu technique used by the Sannin Orochimaru. Orochimaru forms an elemental seal on each of his fingers, one for each of the five elements (water, metal, earth, fire and wood). He used this odd numbered seal to disrupt the affects of the even numbered Shishou Fuuin placed on Naruto's stomach by the Fourth Hokage. The Gogyou Fuuin would disrupt the Shishou Fuuin's ability to let the Kyuubi's chakra blend into Naruto's chakra.

Jinchuuriki Creation and Bijuu Extraction

The ability to contain the power bijuu and sync them with a human has long been coveted. The process to create a Jinchuuriki varies, but all jutsu variation seem to have the resonation alignment of the bijuu and host at its core. The process to then split the Jinchuuriki back into its bijuu and human parts also relies on this same resonation. It should be noted the exact events surrounding the Kyuubi's imprisonment within Naruto have not yet fully been revealed. For that reason, how his soul was removed through Shiki Fuujin and then placed in someone other than the Fourth Hokage is unknown.

Hakke no Fuuin Shiki was a Fuuinjutsu technique used by the Fourth Hokage. The Hakke no Fuuin Shiki was used in conjunction with the Shiki Fuujin technique to seal the Kyuubi demon within the stomach of Naruto. The Hakke no Fuuin Shiki allows the two Shishou Fuuin to leak the Kyuubi chakra back into Naruto's own chakra. This allows Naruto to drawn on the chakra of the Kyuubi and still keep the Kyuubi itself imprisoned. Naruto can access this chakra whenever he experiences heightened emotions or when his own chakra is drained.

Genryuu Kyuu Fuujin is a Fuuinjutsu technique utilized by Akatsuki. To further their goals, they seek to capture all the "Jinchuuriki," literally "the power of human sacrifice" a.k.a. demon possessors such as Uzumaki Naruto and Gaara. Akatsuki seeks to use the bijuu (tailed demon beasts) for their unique abilites. Once they capture one of the Jinchuuriki, they will bring them to a hidden location. All nine members need not be physically present, they can use their astral projection technique to transport a spectral form of themselves into the cave.

The members will first summon the huge "king of hell" statue. This statue has its mouth bound and eyes covered. Once they begin the technique, the mouth binding will fall away and nine spectral dragons will emerge from its mouth to strike the Jinchuuriki. This will then begin the extraction process. With the absence of Orochimaru, the process will take three straight day and nights. During this period the members will release the same exact amount of power as that of the bijuu, this synchronization will thus allow its removal. As the extraction continues, the statues eyes will open to reveal the current status of previous jinchuriki captures, with irises appearing in the eyes to apparently represent a capture.
